This spring looks way out of place...

Also, while I'm talking about transmissions...



I'm supposed to take this box off and move it to the TII transmission, then shorten the shift ummm...lever? so that the 12a shifter fits in the correct location.



Is that right?

Correct. BUT, to do so, you have to pull the whole tailhousing off both transmissions.



There should be details in the FSM, but if not, or you still dont understand Ill type it all out. Its rather long though. Not that it takes a logn time to do, just the descriptions of how things need to be done are long.

So to get the shift lever (what the hell is that part called) out, I have to basically take the entire transmission housing apart and ****?

Yep. You need to disassemble the shift box, knock out the roll pin holding the block that the shifter goes into out of the shaft, pull the tailhosing off, and put your 12A shift rod in the TII tranny, put the alum housing for the shifter assembly on the TII tranny, and then reassemble it.



Its actually quite easy, thought it may sound otherwise. Be ESPECIALLY careful of how the block on the shift rod is sitting when you knock out the roll pin. If its not perfect, youre in for a lot of work to fix it. Be sure the top of the block is tilted towards the open side of the shift box, so the roll pin can be knocked out completely without hitting the wall.

Excellent. Now will it be obvious how to fix that little spring problem?

Thats how it should be. It holds the shifter in place.

Yes, the ball on the end of the shift lever "snaps" under that spring.

Uhh yeah so guess what happened?



The pin, or whatever, that holds the block in place, is definitely missing.



But besides that, my dad and I still can't figure out if all this trouble is actually worth it. The new motor is about an inch longer and the transmission is as well. The shift-rod box part of the tranny is only 1/4" shorter on the TII tranny than on the 12a tranny.



So I ask you--WTF?
