i am looking at building a turbo motor, no fuel injection or computers, just a carb, turbo and a dizzy with dual leading coils. what year model has the best parts for me to get started?

DJ Rotor 01-25-2005 03:42 PM

I'd just go 12A myself. '79-'85. The 13B would give you a tad more torque but in a light buggy it wouldn't be a big deal I wouldn't think. Absolute best parts would probably be something like 13B-RE side plates, 13B-REW rotor housings, Renesis rotors (arguable). And there goes your cost through the roof . . .

'85 RX7 GSL-SE, would that be a 13b or 12a?

DJ Rotor 01-26-2005 09:05 AM

That's a 13B, six-port. Smalling ports as stock. I suspect you could get more power out of a boosted 12A than a boosted GSL-SE engine.

well ive built lots of sandrail setups with lots of different engine configurations!

from 12a turbo to 20 b twin turbo.. it depends on your budget, and power/ torque goals wich setup would be the best for you

ive got some ideas, if your interested, e-mail me robert@rotaryshack.com

graft some streetported 12A side housings into the SE engine. you'll get the best of both worlds and relatively inexpensive, too.

diabolical1 01-31-2005 10:50 AM

actually, i somehow missed the whole turbo-thing ...

anyway, i stand by what i said as far as the motor itself is concerned, but i may recommend going with a T2 motor depending on what boost levels you plan on running.

scottystraub 01-31-2005 02:28 PM

right now i have a 13b 4 port with some nice street porting, but it needs a rebuild. or should i pick up another motor to build up? most motors out there are 6 ports used. also can you use the high compression rotors on a turbo motor?
