I was told there were some kits for turboing a 12A. Who makes them? How much power can be made? Anyone has/saw one?

There was a dude in Texas making kits it seems to me. Havent heard any updates on that in a long time though....

CarTech in San Antonio used to make turbo kits for the 12a and 13b. Kit was complete with intake & exaust manifolds, modified webber carb, rajay wastegate, plenum and piping, and a K&N air filter. CarTech sold the manufacturing rights and marketing rights to Red Line in California. Last time I checked the kits are still available. I put a kit on my 82 GSL about 12 years ago, and it was/is awesome. Took me about 6 hours for the complete install, including the optinal exaust system, which is a bit on the loud side even with the 4 inline mufflers and eliminates the cat so that will cause a problem for folks that have smog inspections. The exaust system is a bolt up job, and only takes about 2 hours to completely remove and install, so it would be easy to switch back for the smog inspection if necessary.

Last time I checked with CarTech was several years ago (3 - 4 ???), and they referred me to RedLine Performance for the rotary setup (CarTech still markets a setup for mustangs). RedLine said they can still provide whatever was needed for the rotary, including intake adapters to use 4 port 13b manifolds on 6 port engines, and even to use 12a manifolds on 4 or 6 port 13b engines and vice-versa. Upon request, they can even still provide the extremely rare (custom made) dual webber turbo setup. According to an article in the now defunct Rotary Rocket Magazine from about 1983 or 1984, the CarTech turbo system with the dual webber intake was good for 460hp on a otherwise stock 13b!!!
Anyway..for all who are interested here's the info I have: CarTech Performance San Antonio, TX (512) 308-8464 RedLine Performance 699 S. St. College Blvd. Suite G Fullerton, CA 92631 (714)922-5336 Email Mike Porter jayb123@primenet.com Hope this helps. BTW...anyone with one of those twin webber intakes from cartech 12a or 13b let me know as I'm in the market for one...want to upgrade to the twin carbs and see how fast my 12a will really go....ZOOM ZOOM. |
i have an article with a car that has the dual webbers, i forget the hp numbers, but they were close to 200mph
