I have a few questions, First off I am planning on doing an engine swap into my first gen in like two weeks. I am going to put a turbo II engine in. but I Wanted to Upgrade the turbo with maybe a TO4. I want to be able to boost like 16-20 PSI, but also be able to turn it down to stock boost, because this will be my daily car... If I wire in a stock Turbo II ECU will that be able to handle the bigger turbo, or will I be better of going with like a wolf 3d ECU? ....If the Wolf 3d ECU would, be better Where and how much could I get one?

j9fd3s 05-23-2003 06:19 PM

the stock ecu wont do a very good job with a bigger turbo, and its harder to set up. haltech, microtech, wolf, electromotive all make ecu's that will work fine

Okay I have a t2 gsl-se (mods in the sig). First off, you cannot use a bigger turbo and keep the n/a tranny and driveshaft. It WON'T hold up. I have stock s5 turbo with boost limited to 10-11psi and my car is making 245 rwhp and 233 ft-lb. torque. The car is already at it's handling limit. It's hard to keep the rear end from fish tailing under full throttle. I can't imagine boosting to 20psi without some dramatic changes to improve handling. Unless off course you only want it for straight line racing.

yeah I wasn't going to keep the stock tranny, driveshaft or rearend. I was going to go with a turbo II tranny with a stage 2 clutch or better. And I was deciding what kind of rearend I Was going to use. I want to shoot for 320 hp.

For everyone's info, I am using a 83 12a tranny. It is holding up (fingers crossed) because I have not really abused it with hard shifts yet. I do plan on upgrading to a t2 tranny. Here are a couple of pics. To be honest, I did not build the pretty engine you see. I bought the car from a guy in mass. who just finished building the car. I was going to get a t2 but this is sooo much cooler than a 2nd gen and only weighs in at about 2400lb.

rxseven 05-24-2003 07:21 PM

and the car pic.....

I'll be gone for a week but i'll take some more pics of anything anyone is interested in after that.

Viperx7 05-24-2003 11:06 PM

Sweet! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif I like it.

Directfreak 05-25-2003 02:10 AM

Car looks great, congrats.

Couple of questions, are you sure the guy you bought it off from, didn't recently purchase it from a guy in

Florida? - the car looks familiar.

Also, what size wheels are those?

T2 transmission. It's from a newer (second gen) Rx-7 turbo.

setzep 05-25-2003 10:26 AM

rxseven- car does look great! You can tell the builder spent some time on that sucker. Can I ask how much you had to pay for the car?

Is that stock brake rotor size? Looks bigger to me for some reason.

rxseven 05-31-2003 09:53 AM

Thank you all for the positive comments. Directfreak, the car is not from florida. I have all the receipts of the past 5 years and they are not from there. Setzep, those are 16" rims I got recently and the rotors are stock. Yes, the PO put a lot of time and money into the car. When I got the entire list of mods and things bought for it, it was quite a bit. As an example, the oil cooler was bought new and we all know how much those costs!

FYI, I paid 6500 plus shipping for it. The money put in the car was well over that, no regrets.
