Can you turbo a stock 1st gen? i know with fc's you have to do a turbo II swap pretty much driveline and ****. but with a first gen can you just slap a manifold turbo and ic on. and call it good.

Do you want a carburetted turbo or EFI turbo?

You need more than just a manifold, turbo and IC.

For starters you'd need the wiring harness and fuel computer. You'd need to upgrade the fuel system. Plus the oil return, etc.

I think that if it were that easy, none of us would be doing T2 swaps.

by turbo and components i meant all the other parts too but i was just wondering if the 1st gen is turboable without swapping drivelines and stuff.

It is but you will need fuel and lots of it if you plan to really boost it up.You'll need a AIC for sure, even on a low boost application I would recomend one.

it can be done but the problem is , if you have a gslse you need to change the fuel sistem to a aftermarket ECU and fuel sistem. and the problem is taht you have to put a IC because you neeed the air coming from the turbo as cool as posible so it doesnt create detonation due of the high compression. and on the gsl or gs with 12a's, the same problem fuel sistem have to be upgrade it. like i said, it can be done but not on stock trim

That's BS, you don't need an IC, I've been running mine for a few months now at 12psi(sometimes 16psi if I really want it to fly ), no problems at all. Do you see an IC here?

With a carb setup, you can get away with using a GSL-SE fuel pump. But it's better to get a good aftermarket pump that puts out at least 25psi. For a pressure regulator just get a Mallory rising rate pressure regulator, should be less than $100. The fuel system is very easy to upgrade, you can even use the stock lines, they are plenty big.

Yeah, you can leave the driveline stock except you will need to get a better clutch.

Here's a list of everything that needs done to put a turbo on a stock 12a.

-TurboII Exhaust manifold - oval bolt holes, grind exhaust paths inward on each side.

-TurboII Turbo

-TurboII Wastegate

-Nikki(stock) Carb w/mods done to handle boost

-12aTurbo(j-spec) intake manifold(stock will hit turbo)

-Turbo Hat for Carb

-GSL-SE Fuel pump(or better)

-Rising rate Fuel pressure regulator

-Drill hole/put in fitting in engine front cover for turbo oil return line

-T fitting where the oil pressure gauge gets it's reading from for turbo oil feed line

-Remove vacume advance and weld centrifugal advance on distributor.

-Downpipe + whatever you want to do with the rest of the exhaust.

Instead of using the 12aTurbo manifold you could get a new exhaust manifold that puts the turbo farther away from the engine. Or you could just get a weber and set it up for boost.
