Hey RacerX or anyone else that survived the Xmas thing.

When dailing in a Timing Light for a 12A motor w/RB Holley and Exhaust system,

do ya's just line up the the trail and lead marks or do ya's dail in the numbers i.e.

(2% BTC)=Lead

(19% ATC)=Trailing

Kinda lost if the indicators are already set at these spec's and I just set the light at ZERO or set the dail on the light to the above settings????

This Machine Screams at either set up. But I have heard you can break a seal if it's timed to far out of wack.

Thanks

Steve

P.S. RacerX!!! I found out why this thing quits after warmup. I unpluged the Fuel Return that I had blocked off, and now it runs like a Lion. I'm calling RB on Monday to find out why they recomend it??? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

i like to set the timing a tad advanced to stock. stock is basically lining up the marks on the pulley.

ive noticed with the 20b that if the timing is right the engine is a lot louder (it sounds healthier), if you go to far it will start to sound wierd, it will break if you go way to far or get the trailing to fire first.

so its best to go a little at a time.

so you put the holley on? i had one like that years ago they really are fast that way :bigthumg:

Thanks Mike;

So do I set the Dial on the timing light to zero and just do the line up the lines with the pole thing?

Yes the Holley makes a big difference. A little piniky to start with. But once you get it set up right your ready to rock.

Thanks again

Hey Steve great to hear that.I'm double checking my timing on this engine as stated in my new thread something is F******* up.Mike: How does the the tally mark on the distributor housing go into the engine???Or does it matter after you line the tally with the dimple???

I guess you did read it;

When you put the distie back in First make sure that the pulley notch (going clockwise) 1st notch is lined up with the dimple. Look at the gear on the bottom of the distie, you will see a rivet looking thingie. Just line it up with extruded looking line on the bottom of the housing.

Make sur that it does not move. When you put it back into the hole it should go right in.

Another way to make sure that you at ATDC is to put the rotor back on the distie and turn it until the pickups are at center of the ignighters just like you would check the air gap. Do this while looking at the bottom to make sure that your not 180% off.

Hope this wasn't the wrong answer you where lookin for.

Take Care

Actually I have everything lined up I'm wondering which way does the dizzy go in is it so the tally is 90 degress' with the mark on the e-shaft?

if you put the motor on the leading mark (line up the pin with the slot/ painted mark) and line up the dizzy (notch to the thingee) and put the dizzy back in where the factory had it, you will be within 2-3degrees

Happy New Year i.e. Good Year Everybody;

It's funny that when we bring up a subject that sparks an interest in our (Wonderful Machines) some have answers and some run away from them!!! Why for is that???

Considering we take so much pride in these anti-no-bonger's, all of us should be involved in answering any question that gets thrown at us.

That's My New Years Resolution.

Thanks Mike & Luis

P.S. Fukin Yoko's still aren't in yet. I threw a fit at the tire dealer and he gave me $100 off if would wait til Thursday. Cool! Moo $$$ to spend on this awesome RX.

Another P.S. If you had a 1980 RX sitting in your driveway that's in pretty good shape but no motor (Rebuilt and Installed in a Cherry 84-GSL) what would you do with it? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

I would prolly restore the body on it and put a good engine in it.SA's are nice when they have good bodies on them.Make it a side project to work on when you have time.Or sell it to someone who would take the time to fix it.Thanks mike.I need to buy a timing light and see how far out it is.
