well checked to o'll 1/4 calc and the est. stock wieght of a gs is around 2300 right?(correct me if i am wrong) and with 120 rwhp it said i should run a mid 15, thinking this most likey see level becouse i ran a 16.8 (no traction) in mine a 5500 feet. so i put in 1500 lbs on it and it said i should run a 13.5! so taking into considaration of elevation and driving skills i should be scratching at a flat 15?? right, i have the time to totaly strip every last peace of un needed mass of the car, so this is my alternitive to a street port.. and i am broke https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

You also have to take into consideration your weight. If youre talking about weight like that, every lb counts. But ummm... I would say you would need to change your hood, replace the rear glass, replace all glass actually, replace body panels with lighter materials, replace doors, take out ALL interior, completely strip the engine, run only a header that dumps VERY early (to save weight on exhaust), ummm... yeah.
if the engine itself weighs about 300 lbs, then the chassis another 900-1000lbs. Add the panels, you, and anything else in the car. I would say a street port is alot cheaper :-p |
but see stripping is somthing i can do my self i have the skillz to make fibre glass fender and dorrs if i whanted to, the engine is stripped to the bone already, and the interior is half way there i would like to keep all the exhaust just becouse this is a daily driver, the glass defanetly has to go, just the rear window weighs nearly 100 lbs or windows i should say get some polly ones and your looking at 15 pounds for all 3, i have removed all the heat shields and cats, that was about 80 to 100lbs of ****, the stock muffler has to wiegh a good 50 lbs it sell those things are huge and i thing they are cast? the some of the dash has to stay becous ei like my radio, but i could make my own dash if i had to, all the stuff under the dash and the dash its self would be around 70lbs, like ac condencer(is that what it is called?) all that stupids wiring.. extra and pluss every last bit of trim inside the car, so we are prety close to 1900 lbs already this is just **** mazda stuck on there to give us a nice pleasant, quiet ride... and even stuff like the moon roof.. you take it out and cover the hole with a layer of fg, there is another 10lbs gone maybe if i whanted to get 1000 lbs car i would replace, fenders doors and panels with lighter components but i think 1500, 1600 pounds is verry acheivable with keeping all the body panles stock.. but the hood i would have fun with and make my own out of fg, that just ads caricter

I've never really got my 7 weighed, but I'm thinking she might weigh about 1600lbs
|
all and all it is alot to do but you need to take into consideration every little part wieghs somthing, maybe alot maybe hardly any, but it is all weight, i think i can do it or get realy close, it may take alot of time and alot of fibre glass but i think i can do it. and yes the big chunk of aluminum under the bumper covers would have to go.

It can be done, all you have to do is strip the interior down to only what you need and the big sections like the dash can be made from alloy sheeting
|
just out of curiosity. u have no money for a street port, but how ya gonna pay fpr all that fiberglass?
on the other hand a fiberglass dash would totally rock... also check for local laws, if u care, cause lexan windows might be illegal for on road use. |
fibre glass is cheap... go to your local auto parts store and look it is not to pricy..
and where i live i don't even need to pass emisions it is sweet gives me the advantige but yah i am shure it will pass with the windows becous ei already got it inspected https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png. |
well i did some stripping today and there is a pile of interior parts that is about 3 feet tall and about five feet around(thats with the seets).. but i need to go get it weighed to see where i stand, i think i have taken close to 300 pounds already..
|
fiber glass is not cheap ... lol.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Its not like 1 bucket of resin will make you a hood :-p but i would like to see you get it done.. however, again .. streetport would be easier https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
|
??? a hood will take more than a gallon of resin! holy ****... ok maybe it will take a little more than expected but i still think that it will turn out to be cheaper than a street port...street port =$1500(or around there) about 200 dollors of fiberglass and resin, i think it is cheaper ...but it may not be easier.

Get some pictures when you've completed some parts.

when i got my car, it had been weighed at 2200 lbs. (but it had some stuff gone already) - that's including this cheesy POS wing and a targa top, among other extraneous BS. so i think im still under 2300 w/ me in it since i weigh 135 and ive taken all that "decorative" crap and all the a/c components out. the little bit of money that ill get after reviving the beast will go toward lightening the drivetrain (driveshaft, flywheel, etc.). i think 1500 lbs is very possible as long as you're willing to live w/o a lot of luxuries (your stereo better be a simple setup).
have fun https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif |
are you talking about the stock fb wing? if you are how much you want for it?
Loi |
well when i wiegh it i will have to take out my sterio... it prolly wieghs about 150 pounds with all the stuff https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png i like bump..... all i need is a heater(i live in utah) and some tunes, i can live with the extra road noise, fuel pump, and exhaust.
|
For all that time and effort stripping it down and making fibreglass parts and ****, you could go get a McJob and save for a porting. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

GET RID OF THE STEREO, and the speakers, etc. You can use a portable walkman. Both bumpers weigh a lot, you can make a lightweight frame to hold the plastic bumper cover.
|
well the 70 lb box comes out of the car easy, so before i leave for the track i just take it out. i am already drawing up some dash ideas, along with a scooped fiberglass hood. i am taking off the removable top(moonroof) and fiber glassing the hole, i might even cut alot of the roof off and replace with fiber glass, all the back windows will be replaced with 1/4 inch polly "window" just one i am making a single window to replace all 3, if you don't know what i mean, it is like the mazdatrix drag car if you have seen it.
|
i am going to take some pics in the next little wile, one of the progress i am at right now and, some of the hood that is going to be my mold, it is scooped and stuff, but yah they will be up soon
|
Remove all the wiring you don't need(stuff for emissions). Thats good for a couple of pounds. All of the heat shielding. The cover under the front of the engine. make a single sheet that goes across the bottom of the car to reduce turbulence under the car.
|
i have removed all of it already(heat shields), um i redid the harness from the plug and cut all the **** i don't need off, i still need to take the ac condencer out of the dash, that is next on the stripping line, starting mold of hood today also
|
I definetly wanna see some pics of how you do this hood, if its not too difficult, I'll put my carbon fibre to use.
|
well the mold got meesed.. bad hardener.. must have froze or somthin, but i am going to try again...and my digi cam aint working for some odd reason???
