What kind of swap options are there for this model?

Felix Wankel 10-11-2002 12:36 AM

Engine, suspension, body, interior.... What do you want to swap???

Mr. Ashe 10-11-2002 12:38 AM

That was terribly vauge, sorry..

Meant to say engine.

Felix Wankel 10-11-2002 01:19 AM

Do you want to stay rotary? Turbo? Non turbo? V8?

What do you plan on doing with it?

How 'bout a Porsche flat six?

Mr. Ashe 10-11-2002 04:01 PM

So, I imagine the 12a would be the most sensible option?

I'd imagine he'd want to keep it rotary..

How about a 13b?

(this is a question for someone else..but I do plan on purchasing a 3rd gen RX-7)

DJ Rotor 10-11-2002 04:37 PM

12a wouldn't be a swap at all, that's what it has now.

13b Turbo is fairly popular and will give you more power than you'd ever need.

I can post a couple links for you if you want.

Go for it, can never have too much information.

Hell, I might even buy a 1g just to get accustomed to rotary.

btw, isnt the whole point behind a swap to get more power? How much would a 13b yeild?

SoRRoW 10-11-2002 06:34 PM

12a are cheaper to rebuild and to me are alot more reiable than a 13b...and in my area alot more common..depends what you want to do with it..and just cause its a 12a ...you can still have a swap for another 12a (12at)

IF you want info on any Rx related click on the link to my page.I have a link to a page that shows the cost and wiring needed to go from 12a to 13bt.I swaped my 12a for a 13b you'll need the engine and front crossmember.Try for a 84, 85 13b 6-port they bolt up to 84,85 GSL-SE crossmember. Then from there you have to decide on EFI swap or Carb the 13b.Mine was easy after I droped in the crossmember and engine out of this wreck 84 GSL-SE I found at a wrecker.Carbing it is just so easy no wiring to worry about. If I sell this one anytime I know a guy who has a '89 Rx7 I might consider seeing as the engine is blown on it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png That is IF I ever sold this one.13b NA swaps are easy. :bigthumg:

Hey all, in my neck of the woods, the 12a turbo is a popular swap[fairly cheap and the 'powers that be' will only approve 12a turbo's in gen ones. Mine sports a bridgeported 13b which is fun enough. There's a couple floating around here with a 20b in the bay!! That should add enough HP to make it fun. I'd agree with Racerx, the 13b na swap is fast and easy over here as well. I know you guys seem to have harsher emission rules so just check on that, it may become a factor.

IF you want power you can always go all out and swap a 13b-re or 13b-rew those pack a punch on a light first gen. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
