I found a glass sunroof I want to buy, but the seller is not including the latching

mechanism. It looks the same as mine on my metal sunroof, but I figured I would ask here.

Can I swap over the latch from one of my metal sunroofs to the glass one? I don't want to blow

the money only to find out the latch is impossible to buy without an entire sunroof assembly. Mine has the two

small red latches, as does the one in the pictures. Mine also has the large turning knob to raise, the attachment,,,,BB

He doesn't give a year model, and I've heard there's a possibly difference.

uhhh, If I am understanding you correctly.

The sun roof should come out. It will detach from the lifting mechanism. Once it is detached all you have to do is slide it out and replace it with the glass roof. Or are you talking about the latch on the lower side of the glass?

When I bought mine all the hardware was busted up. I swapped the latch with one from a metal sunroof and it's worked fine for nine years since.

So, the part that actually attaches to the sunroof, metal or glass, is the same? I don't

need any special nuts, like the ones that hold the struts to the hatchback?? If the entire latch hookup part with the three red clips is missing, I can take the one right off of my

metal one and be good to go?? I have to make completely sure, or my wife will have another told you so moment, haha...

SA and FB moonroofs were different IIRC.

Buzzbomb 06-24-2006 02:31 PM

Mine is an FB I guess, what's an SA??,,,,BB

SA = earlier model like 79

you may want to check Victoria British for roof parts. been a while since i got their catalogue (made them send it to aus. ahaha)

Buzzbomb 06-24-2006 07:10 PM

Mine still had the nuts, but the latch was busted up. So yes, you do need the nuts, but it's a moot point now, huh?

Yep, unfortunately. It's more important to get it running and to stay dry at this point anyways. New door weatherstrips are installed now, and the doors fit well. Yet it still leaks just as bad, on both sides. I'm thinking the time it got hit from behind might have tweaked the door frames. The gaps are all even though.,,,,BB
