Well I got my engine out and im getting ready to send it to mazdacomp to get it rebuilt and get it bridge ported.....my question is, will my stock transmission strong enough for a bridge ported 12a. Later mods will be RB full exhaust, weber carb, and intake manifold. Will I need a TII tranny? Oh....and what about the rearend? Also will a NA bridgeport be reliable enough to drive daily? Thanks in advance! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

It will take all the power your 12a can put out.I've heard that the 12a tranny from 83-85 is capable of supporting 250whp.You won't get any higher than that with a NA ported 12a

Yeah, I've heard the 12a tranny can take a punishing. The dude at Formaz reckons it can handle a 13BT no probs, so your 12ABP will be fine.

the nice thing about na power is that you really dont increase the torque much, so the stock clutch and tranny are fine

Yes, from my undersstanding, j9fd3s has it right. Although the power numbers are significantly increased, the torque levels dont jump nearly as high in a port job as the hp numbers. It's torque taht would put more wear on a tranny, more than the hp numbers.

Of course, me in my gsl-se turbo II, i do not plan on using the turbo2 transmision for a while heh...
