there should be 2 tabs on the frame on front of the radiator and behind that round tube

Anybody got pics of where it mounts to?Still can't figure it out. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

j9fd3s 08-02-2003 07:02 PM

i can get a pic of where it is when its mounted. but you cant see the mounts without removing the radiator, or maybe the bumper. it tucks in right behind the round tube and there should be a tab on each frame rail for it.

Which tube? The smaller one just below the rad?

That big one with the two tabs on top of it or the little one closer to the engine?

Directfreak 08-02-2003 11:19 PM

It's like 4-6 inches in FRONT of the radiator. Kinda Low. Two little "L" brackets.

I have just finished polishing my oil cooler. When mounted it looks like an FMIC.

here is an old picture of it shined up a bit (before propper polishing):

these are older pictures, i dont have access to the car or camera right now. so i cant take pics of the tabs w/ everything removed. but that should give you a general idea.

Racer X 08-03-2003 01:58 AM

Thanks Geoff.I hope to be able to pull the S4 cooler out tommorow and put the FB one in it.I still have to make some gaskets for my weber setup for the 83 tommorow too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

Its not those two tabs that bend to a 90 degree is it?How do the stock cooler mounts bolt to it?

Herr Wankel 08-03-2003 09:16 PM

I would like to know how the SE oil cooler bolts to those brackets too. Are the rubber mounts already on the car (85 GS?) or what? If not, I think I'm outta luck, cause I don't have those rubber pieces. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

Racer X 08-03-2003 09:30 PM

I have the rubber mounts on the cooler but they don't seem to line up anywhere to bolt it too on the front of the car.Just my luck. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

YellowT2 08-04-2003 12:14 PM

The -SE didn't come out till '84, so does enybody know if the '83 even had the mounting tabs? He may not have the stock mounting points on his chassis.

my 83 doesnt have the brackets. i was thinking it might because they had a 12a turbo in 83, and they used the gsl-se cooler on that (most likely)

ioTus 08-04-2003 03:13 PM

hmmm. well the tabs should be RIGHT there. i mean, i can identify them instantly in my car. tell you what, take a picture of your front air dam area, like the 1st one i posted, only with more light. ill tell you if you have them.

Herr Wankel 08-04-2003 07:43 PM

That looks like the old RX-7 oil cooler mounted under the rad, not GSL-SE.

Racer X 08-04-2003 08:20 PM

I'll email them to you Geoff. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Damn thats the mounts on the oil cooler I have. But I also have SE mounts as spares.Couldn't I just swap the mounts over without the rad?

Racer X 08-06-2003 12:06 AM

iotus,I'll email them to your other account then.I sent them to your hotmail account by accident. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

Herr Wankel 08-07-2003 10:30 AM

Would anyone like to share a picture of how these rubber pieces mount to the body?

DJ Rotor 08-07-2003 11:42 AM

Just saw this thread, I'll see if I can take some pix tonight of my setup.

ioTus 08-07-2003 04:58 PM

Here it is, the stock s3 oil cooler mounting point

Herr Wankel 08-07-2003 08:46 PM

Thanks, but can someone take a picture of the rubber piece mounted to the car? I'm only asking because I need to fabricate two of these pieces and wish to know how they are installed on the car. From what I see, a suitable chunk of rubber on either end with two studs may work, but I'd like to compare my idea with the original part.

ioTus 08-08-2003 02:52 AM

Hm. Well, on mine at least, the rubber is not mounted to the car, but rather on the oil cooler itself, one on each end.

DJ Rotor 08-08-2003 09:30 AM

Ok here are some pictures that may or may not help. No laughing at my bugs and rust please https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683607.gif if you want other angles I'll see what I can do.

the rubber bits go between the cooler and the bracket on the car. they are available seperately

Will se mounts work on a non Se cooler to bolt it up?

Herr Wankel 08-08-2003 08:49 PM

http://www.willowroot.ca/private/DSCF0043.JPG

Looks to me that there is a bracket with two 90 degree bends that bolts to the car on one end and to the cooler on the other, with a rubber slab in between. Am I correct? Should be simple to make if that's the case.

Racer X 08-09-2003 12:44 AM

Thats how my Se mounts are.I'm wondering if I can swap my SE ones on and mount it that way like on the se or if I need a SE specific cooler.
