Anybody got pics of where it mounts to?Still can't figure it out. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

i can get a pic of where it is when its mounted. but you cant see the mounts without removing the radiator, or maybe the bumper. it tucks in right behind the round tube and there should be a tab on each frame rail for it.

Which tube? The smaller one just below the rad?

That big one with the two tabs on top of it or the little one closer to the engine?
|
It's like 4-6 inches in FRONT of the radiator. Kinda Low. Two little "L" brackets.

I have just finished polishing my oil cooler. When mounted it looks like an FMIC.
here is an old picture of it shined up a bit (before propper polishing): http://users.pullman.com/jsjensen/io...oler%20002.jpg http://users.pullman.com/jsjensen/io...oler%20004.jpg |
these are older pictures, i dont have access to the car or camera right now. so i cant take pics of the tabs w/ everything removed. but that should give you a general idea.
|
Thanks Geoff.I hope to be able to pull the S4 cooler out tommorow and put the FB one in it.I still have to make some gaskets for my weber setup for the 83 tommorow too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

Its not those two tabs that bend to a 90 degree is it?How do the stock cooler mounts bolt to it?
|
I would like to know how the SE oil cooler bolts to those brackets too. Are the rubber mounts already on the car (85 GS?) or what? If not, I think I'm outta luck, cause I don't have those rubber pieces. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png
|
I have the rubber mounts on the cooler but they don't seem to line up anywhere to bolt it too on the front of the car.Just my luck. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

The -SE didn't come out till '84, so does enybody know if the '83 even had the mounting tabs? He may not have the stock mounting points on his chassis.

I hve an 83. now im cofused. My car came stock with that setup and when I melded it with my 82 they were also there. I'll send pics in an hour+. The camera is next door. |
|
That looks like the old RX-7 oil cooler mounted under the rad, not GSL-SE.
|
I'll email them to you Geoff. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Would anyone like to share a picture of how these rubber pieces mount to the body?
|
Just saw this thread, I'll see if I can take some pix tonight of my setup.

Here it is, the stock s3 oil cooler mounting point
|
Thanks, but can someone take a picture of the rubber piece mounted to the car? I'm only asking because I need to fabricate two of these pieces and wish to know how they are installed on the car. From what I see, a suitable chunk of rubber on either end with two studs may work, but I'd like to compare my idea with the original part.
|
Hm. Well, on mine at least, the rubber is not mounted to the car, but rather on the oil cooler itself, one on each end.
|
Ok here are some pictures that may or may not help. No laughing at my bugs and rust please https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683607.gif if you want other angles I'll see what I can do.

Will se mounts work on a non Se cooler to bolt it up?
|
http://www.willowroot.ca/private/DSCF0043.JPG
Looks to me that there is a bracket with two 90 degree bends that bolts to the car on one end and to the cooler on the other, with a rubber slab in between. Am I correct? Should be simple to make if that's the case. |
Thats how my Se mounts are.I'm wondering if I can swap my SE ones on and mount it that way like on the se or if I need a SE specific cooler.
