Hey guys,

I just started my car earlier today, backed it out of the garage, and was showing it to a potential buyer, he jumped in to drive it and then stalled it. The car won't start now, it just keeps turning over. I pulled the plugs, and saw that the Trailing plugs were wet and the Leading were wet also but not as much fuel on them. Is this an ignition problem or a flooding problem, the car usually starts right up, but this just happened to me.

I'm trying to sell this car, so any help would be appreciated...............Thanks

There are two ways of getting it started.

1) Try the ATF trick. If this is your baby and you can't stand the thought of stressing the drivetrain, do this. It also helps clean the engine, although it significantly shortens the life of the oxygen sensor.

2) Bumpstart it in second gear at over 25 mph. Quick and dirty, but if the car's flooded this works every time.

Thanks BeaterRX7,

It did the trick, it's running and everything is okay!

i perfer using MMO rather than ATF. But they both work

next time this happens, just push start it and it'll work like new!

If your apex seals are carboned up and sticking, unplugging the fuel pump doesn't work. The ATF (MMO) treatment works as does the bumpstarting method. First gens are more likely to have sticky apex seals than a flooded carburetor, especially since they're all twenty years old now.

dude car's just flooded, for the seals to stick the car's gotta sit for a while, like years

I'm with you man. I had a problem with my car flooding and I just removed the plugs and pulled a fuse for the injectors and then cranked the engine over until all the fuel was purged out of the engine. Then I cleaned off the plugs, torqued them down and it's been running fine since. The apex seals won't stick when the car was working fine one second and then stalled. So this would be my best suggestion if you were to run across this again.

Mine used to stick if I didn't drive the car every day. I'd go to start it and it'd have that empty, no-compression whirr. That sound is how I knew it wasn't flooding.

But you are right, I didn't read it carefully enough. If he stalled it and it won't restart, then it's flooded.
