Smokin'

Hi Everyone, it's been a while since I was last here. I was unable to drive my RX for almost a year & a half but now she is back on the road. I seem to have a problem with it smoking. It only has 12,000 kms on the rebuilt engine I know it will always puff a bit at start up, but now it seems to be burning more oil after it is running for about 20 minutes. Are my seals sticking or could my seals be worn already ?? Is there anything I can add to either free them up or to help prevent this problem. Thanks & so very nice to be back.

It's a 12a with streetport & 1/2 bridge on secondaries, everything inside (rotors,seals,bearing+o-rings)are new + dynamically & statically balanced(according to C.P.Racing,if I really believe it). I am running a 48mm Dellorto side draft carb with a Racing Beat intake manifold + header. It all runs well, just smokes too much.

15w-50? it's starting to warm up so i'd think about starting to use a lighter weight oil but that's a whole other topic to itself. when the shop rebuilt it did they say they were going to put it on a break in tune for awhile? usually for break in they run it really rich and especially being in canada, the excess fuel condensation will look like white smoke. i don't know that this is what your problem is for sure, just something that's easy to check in to. plus the fact that if it's smoking then the shop that rebuilt it should fix the issue

I can't diss anybody or any shop on here as per forum rules so I wouldn't take a broken shoe lace let alone my car back to C.P. Racing. I do everything myself & if I need something internal done I will look for a reputable mechanic or shop. Do you feel I should be using a ltghter weight oil also ?

I run Castrol 20W-50. If you're going to run a lighter oil, use it in the winter. Summer, I'd use what you're using now.

What does the smoke smell like? That is the important question....
If oil, then make sure it is not overfilled. If still smoking, try replacing a quart of oil (I recommend a heavier Castol oil, like 30wt.) with a quart of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. Worked great for me when I had bad oil control rings.
If coolant, grab a bottle of Alumaseal (a radiator sealant) and dump it into the radiator. My current motor came to me with blown coolant seals, and pumped out huge clouds of white smoke. No way it could be driven like that. Alumaseal cured it for me, and I've got several thousand miles on her since then, totally issue free.
