here's the deal. i have an '84 SE with an apex seal hanging on for dear life. the motor has 215k mi on it, so i'm very skeptical as to whether the housings will be reuseable.

i've been doing some looking around and i've come up with a couple options:

a. try to find a S4 NA motor, put an SE front cover on it, bolt it in and hook up the S3 fuel injection system.

b. i exchanged a couple emails with kevin at rotaryresurrection.com and he mentioned i could have the motor torn down and put together with S4 housings, SE plates, and SE rotating assembly, using the SE front cover.

would both, either one, or neither of these options work? i want to keep my stock fuel injection system at least for the time being, which is why i'm concerned about the 2nd gen motor action.

I'll be right behind you with this when my motor gives up too. I don't know about mixing S4 housings with the GSL-SE stuff, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I would trust the guy from Rotary Resurrection as I've heard good things from him and he does it for the "love". Why do you want to keep the stock EFI? The FC intake manifold/throttle body is good for a few more horses and the switch to FC electronics would give you chip options to get a better power curve out of the NA. I can't wait til my motor goes so I have a reason to do this!

well i'd like to get the car on the road for as little moneys as possible at first. as long as the car will scoot around with SE fuel injection on an S4 motor, i'll probably do that since the SE motors are difficult to come by. as an added bonus, i'm told that the S4 motors have better chrome on the housings.

later on, i would not be adverse to using a S4 TB and injection with maybe a microtech. but i don't have a garage to work in, so the car can't be down for too long.

you can put an s4 motor in, but it will block off the air injection ports. in other words the car will never pass smog. everything else works.

option b is to rebuild the -se block with s4 or s5 na rotors, they are lighter, and the s5 has higher compression.

you cant swap housings between 74-85 and 86-02 motors, they moved the water seal

I sent the PM before I saw the thread here.

the 13b rotors can be swapped into any 13b? from 85-02?
