Newbie! First off I have searched this forum for over 2 hours but can't quite get all the specifics to my question. I got a 1985 rx7 gs, all stock, been sitting for 12 years w/72,000 original miles. i want to keep it stock pretty much except I wanna SIMPLY get rid of the air pump and catalatic converters (no emission testing here in Fl) but I'm scared it's gonna screw something else up w/senors or temps or idle or back pressure issues, or SOMETHING! God knows what?

Is there a simple and reliable way to get rid of "air pump" and then buy "headers", "pipes and muffler" (at a reasonable price I'm not competing or anything)all while keeping the same adjustments(carb, ect)all while guaranteeing that the car won't suffer any hiccups?

What would happen to small pipe going to cat? Just plug it? wouldn't this cause senor problems or vacuum or idle imperfections or over-heating or duhhhhh?

Help please, I only have a few days left on vacation and I know I'll never get it done w/out some experienced peeps as yourself.

yeah bascially you take it off, and replace with pipes. the air control valve either needs to be removed also or blocked off.

thanks guys, I'll check it out...if I have anymore questions I'll be back...uh, I'll be back then.

If you remove the smog pump you should also get a 3l220 belt from napa or Autozone.

I am running a 2.25 exhaust with RB long tube headers no cat, no emissions. The rat nests guide is really helpful. When I finish my 80 carb I will take some pictures to show what crap on the carb can come off too.

To answer your question on the simple way to remove cat and smog pump.

1. take the smog pump off and plug the port in the air cleaner.

2. spend ~5.00 on a 3l220 belt

3. go to the exhaust shop and have them cut the cat out.

4. cap the line on the intake manifold that went to the cat.

Unless you just want to pollute the air blatantly, you can do a header exhaust and leave everything in place? I have full emissions with a header and custom exhaust. It's not difficult, in fact it's actually easier.,,,BB

Edit: Of course I do realize I'm possibly the only member here who gives a crap about such things, lol.

HELL NO. I care too. Being a fulltime undergrad I see the math all the time dealing with the environment. It is really bad and only getting worse.....

Cool! I'm no tree hugger, but why destroy what we have left, yah know? I finally got sick of the Dodge truck site I was on. People there were ridiculous.
