Begining my strip down tomorrow...well really, its already started.

Removed:

-Air conditioning-

-Air pump-

-Air control valve-

Soon will remove all emissions. Eventually i want to pop the hood and all i want to see is a big shiny carb and a motor.....well, basiclly thats all. Tomorrow im installing the block off plate for the air control valve, and will be taking off the oil injection, and starting on the rats nest. Hopefully will have pics of progress eventually.......start praying. The reason im doing all of this is because something is wrong...and i havent found it yet. Something stupid and small. But im stripping everything to bare minimum in hopes of finding my problem, and making one bad little 12a. :bigok:

j9fd3s 01-17-2003 11:04 AM

well have fun :bigthumg: the rats nest comes off in one big piece

I know the fun in that stuff. What type of wheels are those? What carb are you going to run on it??Don't forget if you want a cleaner look you can always unwrap the engine harness and cut off the loose wires that won't be used with the new setup.I did as you can see in the pic on my page for my car then I rewraped it up in fresh electrical tape and now I have a nice clean bay which is so nice to work in. :bigthumg: If I ever had to put a 12a in it I would just buy a wrecker harness.Like I would go 12a agian tho.

Hereonout 01-19-2003 11:02 AM

Those are the wheels that were on it when i bought it, and to be honest that pic is from the day i bought it, and they were nasty, but i cleaned them up and they look a whole lot like the bbs on the 2nd gen convertables...almost identical really, so i left them on...who wouldnt?....and i really can not decide which carb to run w/......which would you recommend.....im not going all out, but something other that the stock nikki if i can help it. Im in no hurry.

j9fd3s 01-19-2003 12:02 PM

those are the stock 83 limited edition wheels, very rare now and 14" too.

i just bought a 48ida weber, but the holley kits are nice too

mike

Hereonout 01-19-2003 12:25 PM

yeah mine is an 83 limited edition, i love the wheels and will never part with them (sorry ppl). And you are using the 48ida weber. i want to go w/ weber but holley is so well known and parts are very common.

Hereonout 01-19-2003 03:29 PM

Question.....i have removed the rats nest....now what about the vaccum lines going to the intake....do i just block them off, or is there another alternative, blocking them off just looks too cluttered.

Hereonout 01-19-2003 09:17 PM

Removed the Rats nest...not too hard at all really. One plug going to the Alt. one wire going to the selenoid on the carb, and another wire going somewhere i dont remember where though right now and its too damned cold to go outside and check. Took a T and split it off to the Dist. and blocked off all other vaccum lines with BB's and 2 inches of hose. Looks so much better now, and you guys know that back bolt on the carb, the one thats such a pain in the ass to get to, is now so much easier to reach now. Will be posting pics of before and after very soon. Will soon also be disconnecting the entire fuel system and cleaning out the lines.

j9fd3s 01-19-2003 10:48 PM

cool, you can buy vacuum caps at auto parts store

mike

Hereonout 01-19-2003 10:56 PM

...really? ill have to check on that, i just grabbed some BB's off the ground left over from the other nights drunken blur.

j9fd3s 01-20-2003 12:27 AM

haha, well that works too

mike

Hereonout 01-20-2003 04:24 PM

now what about some of the attachments on the nikki? which ones can go, and which ones have to stay?

j9fd3s 01-20-2003 04:34 PM

hmm i wish i had some pics, um here this might help

Hereonout 01-21-2003 11:36 PM

Can you make a right up, or a how to? What is the purpose of this? What are all the colored clips to the right and left of the engine, (before you took them out)

and the 12v power to the solenoid in the carb

mike

Shpook 01-22-2003 11:41 AM

If I'm not being dumb, I think your talking about the electrical and vacuum solenoid's.

812Little 01-22-2003 01:13 PM

the plastic, colored, inch x inch connector thingys? what do they do?

A few months ago in SCC magazine there was a RX3, I think. It was red, but the engine bay was stripped of everything but the engine. Besides the weight was is the benefits?

j9fd3s 01-22-2003 01:40 PM

its simpler, but thats it

Thats why you remove the junk on the engine then unwrap the harness and undo the tangle of wires and remove the unneccesary wires on it.Mine only has 5 wires instead of 21. :bigthumg: If you want to see my hack job its on my webpage.I even rewrapped it in electrical tape for that clean look. :bigthumg:

j9fd3s 01-22-2003 10:24 PM

is an 83 engine harness seperate like an 84 and later one?

ENSabahNur 08-16-2011 05:12 PM

i want to tackle this i already have my block off plate and plugs ....

hey Mr diaz i sent you a email

rotarymini72 08-26-2011 10:58 PM

Hey guys

i just recently took the nikki of and went to a cheap mans holley setup, i took the stock manifold and had a 3/4 inch spacer welded to the manifold, put the block of plate on and ran a 450cfm chokeless mechanical secondary carb on which was dirt cheap(holley part number 0-9776) just something to consider if you want to change out the nikki for something more readily available.

cheers
