Has anyone ever heard of a rear seat for a 84 first gen...or even better have one to sell...i read a long time ago a company in california made them for a short while. Even saw one in a car on e-bay a while back.

Got my carb problems "in check"...as much as i can...i was gettin a lug lug lug and the engine would run like crap in mid warmup...emissions which i don't have anymore were trying to kick in...guess the carb thought it wanted em or something. Anyone had any experience with other forms of carbs or perhaps fuel injection...this is on a 12a. I'm just looking for something to get me good mileage and reliability...power would be good...but i don't have to have it. I heard a 2bbl webber would give me a increase in mpg...but it might be too much of a loss in power compared to my 4bbl nikki.

Any advice would be appreciated...as i will have a lot of spare time now since i unexpecetedly became single again as of yesterday...life is wierd hu?

For rear seats, see if someone on ausrotary.com will sell you one. They had quite a few 1st gens with rear seats in Australia.

I thought about getting one but seems to me it would not be terribly useful.

Most of the non-US models had rear seats.

drifter 04-05-2003 07:25 AM

whoa! WTF? Your rx's don't have rear seats!?

Cote 04-05-2003 09:14 AM

nope! only 2 seats

Series1RX7 04-05-2003 11:38 AM

Didn't all Aussie rx's get back seats? Are you sure you really want them, i can hardly even fit one person in the back of my rx, and even if i do, they have to sit with their legs on the opposite side of the car than their arse. I think i will be removing mine in the future.

falcoln0014 04-06-2003 12:32 AM

Currently i can only carry me and one person...the two other people i usually ride with are girls under 100 pounds...both under 5' 5"...so its not a problem

I might have to find a new home for my amp tho...kinda get in the way of everybodys legs...plus i don't want mud and dirt on the top of it

Another thing...exactly how hard would it be for me to install this thing?

Currently i have the 2 standard locking cubbies behind my seats...barely enough room behind the seat with it back to fit a small bag behind...i'll try to take some pics of all my crap and post it tomorrow for u guys over seas

falcoln0014 04-06-2003 12:39 AM

oh...something else...any of you guys over seas have pictures of what the seats look like and stuff?

I can't really seem to find anything on the topic online anywhere...and all the australian pages i find seem to cut that part out of every photo...guess nobody likes the seats hu...lol

heh.. the seats suck.. i will try to get a picture of mine tomorrow... won't be the best of pictures though.. if your short then you will manage to get people in the back, you have to have the front seats atleast half way forwed to be able to get someones legs behind it. here is a picture of my '79 13b, it still needs lots of work, but we are getting there. You can sought of see the back seat inbetween the two front seats.

I read somewere that they wre called a child seat. And they came in all non american cars. I have a 5year old so it would come in handy. How much would it cost to ship to us?

drifter 04-07-2003 09:27 PM

Child seat? Thats about it, they are just too small for anything else.

Ship to the US? Wouldn't have a clue. prolly heeaps. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

The rear seats won't just bolt into a North American SA/FB.

The reason they were omitted from the North American line of cars is more stringent rear end crash restrictions mandated that extra body bracing be added to US and Canadian spec RX-7s. To install the rear seats from a Jspec or aussie car you'd have to remove this bracing, thus changing a DOT mandated structural element - which could result in your car failing a safety inspection in the future.

the 79-80 cars are the only ones with the bracing, in 81 the bumper requierment went from 5mph to 2.5mph, so the braces were deleted

Ah, I forgot the US dropped the reg - in Canada it remained, and remains, at 5 MPH as does the bracing. I guess with more sudden icing up north there's more rear collisions?

I don't think they are very useful, in fact I'm pretty sure I'm not going to put mine back in when I redo the interior. If I get a chance this week, I'll take some shots with my new digi cam.

j9fd3s 04-09-2003 11:13 AM

we should set up a rear seat/storage bin exchange programme. (we could also do the passenger seat excange)

This may sound funny, but try a different rebuilder or (if you can) buy a new one.

I have had times when I was doing repairs when I would get 3-4 different parts,

(same part# and source) and they would all be screwy. I get my money back from

source "A" and go to a different store. First try, BAM starts right up (no problems)!

I took it off and i have green grease all over the starter where it pushes onto the flywheel...it appears to be coming from inside the starter...but i can't really tell

Auto parts store ran it on the tester...it spun and pushed in and out...but they didn't have it pushin a engine so i don't think the test is totally accurate

they want me to rewire it and try it again...but its a freakin pain to hook the thing back onto the car

Sure wish i had a lift instead of a jack to make it easier

my dad will be home shortly...he used to race when he was in college so he should be able to figure out whats wrong with it...if not then i guess i'm rewiring and tryin it again

I believe the fly wheel is good on the engine...and i'm sure the engine is good cuz i actually got it to fire up and run for a sec before i killed it...sounded awesome as always

i'll post the results of what happens later...bye

those aren't seats, they're padded storage space for a speaker box. HAHA wow, i knew that the all non-us had them due to relaxed crash standards, but im 6'2 and 200, if i had to ride back there... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

Not all of us are Americans mate.

Maybe you should give mazda a call about your other problem, also you want want to download a parts manual, to get an idea on the part number you'll need to make sure that the guy on teh other end of the phone knows what your talking about.
