Hi,
I just bought a 85 gs and when I drive it between 30 and about 60, the rear end is constantly humming at a high pitch. I was wondering if that was normal or what. Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris |
Sounds like Pinion gears going bad..
is there fluid back there? |
it could be the axle bearings too. step one is to change the oil back there, maybe its low/bad

Sounds like bearings.Mine were replaced just before I bought it so mine makes absolutly no noises from the back. But it could just be low on fluid.Make sure the diff doesn't have any leaks first.

I don't see any leaks, and i just changed the fluid a little more than a week ago. I was thinking my wheel bearings, but wasn't sue if anyone else had this problem.
Thanks, Chris |
My car had 180,000 and the previous owner said that the stock wheel bearing were going so I guess it might be a possibility.

I had some noise in the rear of my 84, and come to find out I had a crack in the rear end near where the spring sits on the rear. So thats when I did my swap to gsl for the disc brakes
