Ok guys. I've got a leak in the rear differential and I went away on spring break a week ago. I know that a heck of alot of the fluid has leaked out, so i got the stuff to fill it up and i got some stuff to try to patch the leak for the next month or so. Question is, what the hell is that bolt? I dont have anything that fits in there. What do I need to use to get that dumb thing open! Thanks for any help, I don't wanna drive it to my friends to use his jack stands without filling the rear end. Thanks!

Just use a 3/8 drive rachet, no socket.

I use it with an extention for a little more leverage, but that's how you do it.

Ok, thanks guys! I was wondering what the heck that thing was. Now, another question somewhat related. When i go to tighten this thing back on, it should be snug but i dont want to tighten it like real hard right? I read somewhere that if you tighten it too much you ruin the threads and it will leak from there. Whats the "optimum" tightness. Ugh, this 1984 manual sucks and don't tell ya 1/2 of what you need to know.

If you have a torque wrench, I would say @ 20-30ft-lbs.
