Hey Mike & Luis;

Maybe your knowledge will help with this one?

Drove the Beast for about 250 miles over the weekend, you know you break it in kind of thing.

Had to stop about every 30-40 miles and make some tweaking to the Holley thingie.

The problem is that when I come to a stop the engine quits unless I hit the gas pedal quickly and then it idles back to 1000rpm. I can live with the high idle i.e. 950-1000rpm. But what the hell is going on with this dead spot?

All rats nest removed.

Timing-Right on.

New everything Brand New- (Of Course)

Kinda of lost on this one.

Any ideas???

P.S. I'm out of town a lot so take your time to answer ???????

84Gsl

New rebuilt 80 Motor Bridgeport with 84 Dist and 80 under Rad Oil Conversion.

RB Holley

Holley Blue (LoudAss) Pump/reg set at 6psi

RB Header and PowerPulse Exaust System

Center Force Clutch

And a **** load of other goodies.

Another P.S. Hit 141 and still had a little pedal. Toooo Coool!

Thanks

if its a bridge port it should be idling higher like 1300-1500rpms.

either that or maybe the idle mixture is a little too rich/lean

Hi Mike;

Now thats what I call fast thinkin!

Bin there and done that about 10 times.

What about the float levels?

That is the only thing that I have yet to check.

Do I not only check the Prime or do I check the Seconds also?

Thanks again.

i guess it could be the float levels too, well efi engines will do this same thing and it seems that when you are decelerating and ou put the clutch in the engine will die unless it gets a little extra squirt of gas. it sounds like your problem is similar?

Make sure your high idles is around 1300 and low idle is around 1000 then go from there.I say those idle levels seeing that your engine is bridgeported and getting ready to kick some serious ass.Have you checked your timing with a Timing light????It should be advanced just a couple of degress to compensate for the port job.Does it idle smooth???

Good Morning Mike & Luis;

2 ???'s

Not sure what you means by the High and Low idle Levels. Are you talking about Float levels or what?

As per the Timing issue. Yes I set the Machine up with a Light 2% advanced from stock.

I ordered a Liquid Filled Fuel Pressure Gauge on Tuesday and should be rec'd today. I have a mech one on there now and it could be off. Never have trusted them before and hopefully it's that simple.

When you state running Idle RPM's at 1300 aren't you getting false timing readings???

Thanks

Steve

the bp motors need to idle a little higher, like 1300

No,Some carbs have two settings for when the engine is warming up and when the engine is warmed up.My 83's dellorto has to settings on it like that too.My high idle is 1300 and when it warms up I kick it down to 800.Runs beautifully.I'd still sell the carb if I got the right offer on it tho.Then buy a holley setup.

Racer X 01-09-2003 10:49 PM

I have to agree with mike about 1300 rpm idle on yours too.Mike is the man. :bigthumg:

What float thing??Let us know how it goes.

sgieldon 01-12-2003 08:43 AM

Good Morning Gent's;

You know the float thingie's!!! Those stupid touchy Metal Baloons that when off just a pubic hair can **** everything else that worked OK before.

Anyhew: Spent an hour in a half on it and I thinks there right on.

Just for the hell of it I checked my OMP out and it measured perfectly. At least thats one thing thats turned out not to need work on!

Actually I should not bitch considering that this was a major project.

This Babe looks Great and Kicks some serious ass, considering that its been totally re-done in and out with alot of Mod's $$$$.

Those Yokohama's were worth waiting for. Drove in some serious rain yesterday and they stuck to the pavement just like they advertise them's to do. With the exception of starting from a dead stop. I've have to get used to this Clutch.

Well I'm headed for Nashville till next Sat, so keep on everybody so we can spend Moo Money.

Good Morning Gent's:

Have you ever been in a town that see's Snow once every 10 to 20 years??

Thats what happened in Nashville Tenn on Thursday. They gots 3 feet of it in about 5hrs.

It shut down everything for 2 days.

I'm glad I live in Oregon where it just Rains all the time.

Anyhew; I got back in town Sat. First thing I did was start up the Bad Boy and within 30sec's to 1min I had about 2 Gallons of gas all over the engine and garage floor?

(#@%:XLS#$@)SWEAR WORDS. Anotherwords (What the ****)!!!

Somehow those nasty RX Gremlins screwed with my Machine while I was gone.

I had everything working perfectly i.e. fuel pressure, float levels, Idle mixture, & 1300 RPM at the Idle. Turned the key and Fuel was shooting everywhere. Not from any connections or hoses but from What I think is called the Primary Float Relief Valve. It's the arm with which looks like a plunger on top of the Carb???????.

I changed the float settings and evrything else. Drove it for 50+ miles, stopped every 10 and had to do over again and again.

I'm amazed that I still have a Car, Garage, House left after this scenario. No Fire Thank God!

Mike & Luis; any ideas what to do besides get the runaround at RB????

Have a Great One. Anotherwords a Fast & Furious Day!

Steve

i saw thinking stuck floats?

mike

sgieldon 01-19-2003 01:11 PM

Hey Mike;

Woke up the neighbors just now.

How can you have stuck floats on a brand new RB Holley setup???

Anyhow I just changed back to the Mech Fuel PSI gauge and sure as **** it reads 6psi. It's 32% outside right now so I'm going to wait till 1:00Pacific Time and **** with it then. Hopefully it will warm up to around 40-45 so I can play this crap all over again. The thing that Pisses Me Off the Most is that you have to keep adjusting everthing back to squire one all over again.

For all the money we spend and digging around for any info in modifing our machines, there is no quick fix.

I've had 6 of these wonderful machines, but this is the first time I did a 80 Motor to a 84 changeover. When I get my photo's converted to CD format I'm sure you and Luis will be impreesd with my project.

Even with all the fun this thing has been, to include hitting 141 the first day out!!! I will figure out the Gremlins that came with this setup.

Besides the Fuel Problem, any ??? you my have I'll bet I have the answers to doing any conversion from 80basic to 84GSL conversions. i.e. Engine,Trans,Clutch,Diff,Susp,Elec,RatsNest,FuelDe livery,(-minus My delema).

Speaking of the Fuel Problem!!!

One thing I did notice is that there was a notice that came with the RB Holley Set-up that states blocking off the fuel return line. Any clues on this subject???

See Ya's

My RB setup you have to disconnect the return too.Mine sucks alot of air and fuel.What a hog. :rant: Yeah get some pics up.I spend 6000Cdn on my project so far. :smirk:

sgieldon 01-22-2003 07:11 AM

Hey Luis;

When you state disconnect the Return line, you just mean to Plug it (Right)?

Did that and it made no difference!

I went to a Carb Shop that specialized in Holley Setups and they really fucked things up.

Now I get a lot of stumble and loss of power at RPM's above 3000. This is really starting to Pissss me off. Waste of $75.00. My top speed dropped from 141 to 90 at full Throttle.

This my sound stupid? But you are checking the Trailing, should the vacum line be disconnected???.

Well another day.

P.S. Should be getting the Pic's Back on CD next week and I can finally show youins this bad Boy. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

I may be off but put a cheap ole purelater fuel regulater in and dial it to the (7lbs I think)or

to the 4.5 of the Dellorto just to see. If you improved your pump (should,ve for the bridgeP) they sometimes pump hard and stick floats or over flow system.

Another idea. but you cant leave at low PSI cause it will run lean.

Best o luck

Yeah I plugged the return line and ran the vaccum lines from the dizzy to the carb.I tried the one way car ran like **** with no idle then reversed the vaccum lines and ran beautifully.I love this setup.Works good.Have you tried the carb at 7psi?
