I am going to put a mallory fuel pump on my weber 12a setup and I am putting a fram hpg1 fuel filter in there somewhere... I was talking to my friend and he said I should run it like this...

Tank----Fram filter-----Mallory pump-----Mallory pres regulator--- weber

but I though you were supposed to run it like this

Tank----Mallory pump-----Fram Filter-----Mallory pres regulator-----weber

correct me if I am wrong but don't you want the filter to be pressurized?

hooking it up his way will make the pump work a lot harder will it not?

What do you guys think?

You don't want the bad stuff going into your Fuel Pump.

Tank-Fram G-12 Filter, At the Fuel Oulet line i.e. Firewall another Fuel Filter either Fram Filter or a See Threw Glass Filter before Regulater and your set.

If you don't use a filter before the Fuel Pump, any Junk i.e. rust will screw up your Pump in the Future.

Good Luck

Isn't there a strainer inside the tank? There is on my -se tank, can't remember with the 12a tank. But anyways you should have a strainer before the pump and a filter after the pump.

two filters seems a little over cautious to me... The gas tank has been empied and cleaned and I want the least amount of restriction on the fuel line itself...

so just one filter after the tank is probably best right?

If you installed a Reg before the Carb and after the last filter in the line, you will know if there is any restriction and can be adjusted accordingly.

Granted that your line is clean to start with.

If you only want to have one filter put it after the pump. Restriction before the pump is no good, it's a lot easier for a pump to deal with a little more pressure than it is to deal with a little higher vacuum.

filter before pump. I am running a Mallory fuel pump with Mikuni side drafts. No problems in 5 years.
