A very brief description:
I purchased this car from a co-worker after I tested the compression on the motor and verified that it had a dead front rotor. The chassis had 106,000 on it and besides needing paint, was, and is, still a pretty cool car. My plans were to rebuild the motor, at minimum, to get the car running again. After completing motor disassembly today, January 4th, 2003, and finding out how damaged the motor actually is, I'm not sure as to what I will do with it. I thought you guys (and girls, the few of you) might enjoy seeing pictures of the badly damaged motor that came out of my 1985 RX-7 GSL. They aren't of great quality or lighting, but I they will do for now. I will post a few pictures and let you all check out the remaining slides at my photo album on nopistons.net if you so desire. Enjoy. Kyle The car. http://nopistons.net/albums/albun13/aae.jpg http://nopistons.net/albums/albun13/aaf.jpg The empty engine bay. I tried not to cut any wires while pulling it out. http://nopistons.net/albums/albun13/aag.jpg In the process of disassembly. http://nopistons.net/albums/albun13/aai.jpg http://nopistons.net/albums/albun13/aaq.jpg Side housing. http://nopistons.net/albums/albun13/aap.jpg |
These pictures are of the front rotor, the one that held no compression. Notice not only the scratches and scars left from the apex seal letting loose, but the dents as well.

The following pictures are of the front rotor housing, which will make a nice mantle piece. Long, deep scaring and grooves were present as well as massive chaffing of the chrome plating on the inside. The chatter marks were rough enough to feel by hand.

If you decide to rebuild it Atkins rotary sells good used rotors and housings for relatively cheap. Somewheres around 225 for both. Firs gens are pretty cool eh? :bigthumg:

RX-7 CMS,
I'm in Roanoke. Can't seem to find many people around the area that are into automobiles, much less rotaries. How about yourself? Rob x-7, The truck is an 83' with the Laredo package like you say. I actually bought it from the original owner who ordered it directly from AMC/Jeep. It has a 258/727 drivetrain, factory A/C, bucket seats and chromies too! Pretty rare combo from what I understand. There are probably two that I have seen run around here but they are totally rusted out with bumpers falling off and what not. Heh. Kyle |

body of that 1st gen looks as bad as the damn rotors, why again did u pick it up?
|
The body is actually very nice; no major dents, never wrecked and no rust. It needs paint obviously, but other then that it's good to go.
