I'd been searching for replacement switches since mine weren't working. I could put the windows down but not back up. Today I decided to tear the thing apart and figure out how they were wired so I could build a makeshift replacement.

As it turns out, they were fixable. In this case it was from an '85 GSL-SE where the switches were mounted in the center console.

Each switch is held together with a metal pin, which is fairly easy to pop out. This will allow removal of the top of the switch. It has two little spring things in the underside, so just make sure to hold onto it as you slide the pin out.

Inside you will find a set of rocker style contacts. These will come out if you flip the housing upside down. In my case they had become coated in some sort of black buildup. I used a small screwdriver to scrap the black coating off.

When putting them back in, there is a set of notches in each one that corresponds to some protrusions in the housing, just make sure they are seated right. After that just hold the top on and slide the pin back through.

I was surprised at how simple this was, especially after expecting to replace them. It took about 20 minutes in total, and now I can roll my windows down and more importantly, back up. Figured I would share this in case anyone else ran into this problem.

I wish mine were that easy to fix. I took them apart and the little spring things were broke.
