Long time listener, first time caller or something. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I just bought this:

http://kungfu.zapto.org:8085/spiv/rx7.jpg

It's clean as hell inside and out, but it severely lacks power and was constantly stalling. So I rebuilt the carb. Now it doesn't stall, but it still lacks a LOT of power. This is a very sad thing in such a sexy car.

I'm thinking there's a vaccuum leak somewhere. Does anyone have an easy way to check? I'm also going to check the compression, but that's another topic.

Thanks in advance!

it all depends on where your leak is. most of the time you can hear them. is it stock? do you have a rats nest? loss of power huh, have you checked the compression? if you do have a vacuum leak going to the carb, grab a can of propane (little one like for a torch) jig a rubber hose on the end, start the car and let the propane out in little areas. if you have a leak the car will iddle better, or even rev up when you shoot the propane in the leak. just how i do it. if its air or emisions, i've never had that on my car so i can't help. hope this helps you some, good luck.

basically any gasket or hose can leak. the secret hose is on the rear lower intake manifold

kettlman - The car is entirely stock for the moment. The engine compartment is dirty as HELL cause the previous owner took it to jiffylube and the dumbasses there didnt care that oil leaked everywhere.

Most of the people I've talked to said to use the propane or carb cleaner trick. I'm gonna check to see if the secondaries are opening while I'm at it.

RotorMotorDriver - lol, no problem! It happens all the time, especially on car forums https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Thanks again! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

you know, you can tweak the stock carbs a good amount.even if everything is stock. there's two things i've done. 1- you replace the jets, i've put 110's in the primaries and 160's in the seconds. 2- the seconds can be adjusted to open twice as quick, its been awhilke since i've done it, but on the mechanical parts you can take the tab that opens the seconds and reverse it( with a little bending and or grinding) it makes a world of difference. i couldn't tell you wich one but i do remember it being the little one. play around with it and you'll get it. its not that hard to realize which one will open them. good luck

Update:

I just realized i called it a GXL, duh, 's' and 'x' kinda sound the same right?. Dislexia r0x. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Anyway, the secondaries were NOT opening up. It was only getting the secondaries open every now and then, so we checked my gas pedal to see if it was working properly. The damn pedal wasnt allowing the secondaries to open up because the cable wasn't tight enough. So my car really wanted to go faster, but couldnt because my pedal was being a beotch.

That probably didnt make much sense. But you get the jist. We also upped the timing and changed the mixture, now she runs like a rx7 again! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

One more quick question that I could easily search for but i'm lazy: I'm thinking that the car needs more air. For one, the rubber hose that comes off the air intake canister is missing. Rather than spend money I dont have on replacing the stock rubber hose, I was thinking, why not setup some kind of ram-air system...but where?

Me and some mechanics got talking and figured I could drill 1/2inch holes in the bottom of the canister to let more air in. It wouldn't be cold air, but it would get more. Whadayathink?

BTW, Wasn't someone selling a airbox that they found in a junk yard? /me thinks she could do the drill thing and if it doesnt work just replace it with another.

Here's a pic of the Airbox without the rubber hose, to clear up any confusion:

Here's the whole damn directory if you got some time to kill. Cheers https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
