I have a 1981 Mazda RX7, which i put a posi rear end in, i dont know what year the rear end is but im guessing an 83. Anyway that is besides the point, can i put the axles out of a rear end that isnt posi into a posi rear end? are the axles, bearings, retainer all the same?

Since no one has responded, I will. (I totally hate this about the 1st gen section, I wish I knew more so I could contribute!)
The axles are the same regardless if you have a Posi (LSD) or not. I had no problems swapping in a GSL-SE LSD (commonly referred to as a Posi) into my open diff GS. |
Here's a link to a writeup about axle/diff interchanging. Hopefully this helps.

In other words, disregard what I said. I didn't know the axle assemblies were different! Sorry.

Alls a posi is, is a spyder gear clamp kinda thing that grabs the gears and forces them to spin at the same speed when one starts to go significantly faster than the other. Thats all it is. You can cheat and weld them together, but it will hop, skip and jump its way around corners. Lockers and LSD's are reletively the same.
