I am new to this board and 7's, but I bought a 83 GSL about 3 weeks ago and have started modding it. I have so far fabricated a ram air intake and installed a K&N filter, also 8mm accel plug wires. I plan on installing an MSD 6al ignition on the lead coil and porting the engine. My questions are what kind of porting should i get and how much should it cost? Also what else should I be adding to my car, keeping in mind that i don't have alot of money. Also is there anyone on this board who lives in Colorado, and if so in what area? Thanks.

all depends on how reliable u want it. i would go w/ a street port. im not sure on the cost of doing it. BTW welcome aboard

To port the engine you will have to rebuild it because it must be torn donw to get to the housing faces. If you did it yourself and replaced all apex seals, which I would definitely do, you are probably looking at somewhere around 5-600 bucks. Porting usually costs around 300 bucks, so add that to the equation and you are looking at around 900$. You will get the most horsepower gains from a good aftermarket exhaust system. Racing beat makes practically the best stuff out there. Check out there website if you haven't already. Good luck!

should i get the street port first and that buy the Street Port exhaust from racing beat? Or just buy the normal exhaust from racing beat and than decide if I should street port or not? I just feel uncomfortable with the whole "not legal on streets" thing, because this is gonna be my street racing car. heh Thanks

Also how hard is it to tear apart the engine and port it myself if I have some burr grinders and the templates? Keep in mind that I have never torn apart a rotary or any other engine for that matter. Is there anyone in Colorado here who would mind watching me while I do this so I dont completely **** it up?

Buy the street port exhaust system, it will work fine with your car. You won't pass emissions if thats what your worried about, but you can always use your old exhaust to smog it. Even if you decide to streatport your engine further down the road, you will need a free flowing exhaust and intake to reap the extra hp from the port. The exhaust will make a big difference just with the stock engine. If you have some mechanical skills you can definitely rebuild the engine yourself. www.Atkinsrotary.com sells video tapes about overhauiling the 13B, which is very similar. Its just that it will cost ya at least 600$ to rebuild the engine yourself. My advice would be to buy the exhaust first, drive it around a bit or until you bore with it and then look into tearing it apart and doing some kind of port job. But we all do things differently so good luck!
