I found this pipe bender on ebay and was thinking of getting it to bend my intercooler and maybe my exhaust pipes with. I know it wouldnt be as nice and mandrel but you think it's worth investing in.? pipe bender

I was looking at getting one myself for my exhaust.I have the pipe I just need to bend it so it goes under axle.

$85 for shipping and handling?

are they super heavy or something?

lowroller 02-25-2004 12:05 PM

I'm assuming there pretty heavy. was just looking for some alternatives because the 150 all the shops around here want just to pipe from the down pipe to the muffler dosnt sound that great. and I would guess piping an intercooler would be even more expensive

propper piping of an intercooler, full welded w/ mandrel bends ( you MUST have mandrel bends, otherwise the inside diameter changes in the corners and causes lots of restriction), is about 275, including flange for a bov and silicone connectors.

jebenkurac 02-25-2004 03:49 PM

but if you dont car about mandrel and what not just go to a hardware store and buy one. electrians use them for bending conduit so i cant imagine them being overly expensive, especially the hand ones

hmmm OK well I live in corona ca. dose anyone have any suggestions on where I can get my intercooler piped...or should I just go to a muffler shop that dose mandrel bending and see if they would do it for me??

FikseRxSeven 02-26-2004 01:52 AM

mandrel bending matters more for the exhaust than the intercooler

actually it doesnt matter for the intercooler at all, cuz once it gets to the core, the air slows down a lot anyways

lowroller 02-26-2004 02:34 AM

well I'm basicly trying to find a nice front mount setup. I havent found any first gen front mount intercooler kits, and even if I had I bet they wouldnt be cheep. the best place I've found intercoolers at a good price is ebay. I'm considering just buying one off of ebay and getting it piped... any advice or tips on what would fit?? or maybe even some pictures. oh yeah I've got the erbuni front air dam

I know theres gotta be some turbod first gens with fmic

Thats the most common way of getting it done.

... what do you think happens to the air after it's through the intercooler and funneled back into that 2-3" diameter pipe?

Lacan91 02-26-2004 07:51 PM

i've got a small npr intercooler, i'm havin trouble figuring out how i'm gonna do my piping. a buddy of mine borrowed one of those hydraulic benders from work so he could bend some exhaust pipes for me. unfortunately the exhaust pipe he got for me had too thin a wall thickness and just crimped the stuff.

lesson is if you're gonna do your own piping, make sure you get some thick piping!!

Yes! Lol, a pipe bender would definately be something that you'd buy locally if you have the chance. You're gonna get raped on shipping on something that large.

Altho I've never had to take my stuff to a shop, that's the first place I send all my friends. If you tell them what you need from the start (and don't have boobs attached to your chest) they'll help you out. Now, if you've got boobs like me, ****, you're just outta luck. Maybe call them on the phone and talk in a deep voice to get all the details worked out first, then say you're just a secretary who was sent out to pick up parts. Works like a charm and you don't get **** on ;D :o

Even if it isn't a mandrel pipe bender I'm sure it would be fun to keep aorund the house so you could bend pipes whenever you needed to, you know, for fun.

Lacan91 02-26-2004 10:21 PM
