Hi All~

I'd just like to ask if anyone knows what, aside from age and wear, the usual cause of pilot bearing failure is. I changed mine about 4 months ago when I put in the ACT and I think it shat itself this weekend. However, I'm about 60% sure that it's the pilot bearing and I'm curious if there's something about the tranny that could cause such quick and sudden failure.

Thanks

did you put grease on it? was the input shaft of the trans in good shape?

What makes ya think its the pilot bearing? Vibration?

yeah ... i greased it before i installed it. however, i think i am a victim of my own desperation. when i put this motor in a few years back, i used the wrong mounting bracket and i'm thinking that this may have caused extra strain on the input shaft over time. how plausible does that sound?

also, i'm suspect of the tranny because i'm hearing noises that i've never heard before.

anyway, i'm going to put one of my other trannies in there with a new bearing and see what happens.

thanks

still open to any other answers or suggestions.

it's hard to get it into gear while stationary - particularly reverse - and i can also hear the needles grinding up when it does engage.

If you greased it properly, for it to wear out that fast it could be a worn front bearing of the tranny. If you remove the tranny make sur there is not too much play on the shaft.

Those needle bearings dont always stay in place, maybe you lost one or two before or during the install?

my money is on an issue with the tranny - either the shaft or front bearing (as you stated).

i guess losing a needle would be possible during the install, but i think it dubious. why would it take 4 months for me to hear it?
