I just bought an 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE with 67,000 miles a few weeks ago. I love this car, I can't believe how fun it is to drive. I want to keep this car forever.

I starting looking over the car's engine and I noticed a small oil leak between the the rotor section and the outside section of the engine on the drivers side. This section is not under the oil filter and the leak is about a half inch long and it is thick and does not drip. Should I be concerned?

Also, where can I find a glass sun roof for this car.

Is it true you can redline a 7 without harming the engine?

Thanks for your help.

Well your leak sounds to be the "feared leak" (is it between the rear rotor and side housing?), hopefully I am wrong (fingers crossed) but I would have someone knowledgable in rotaries look at it. Also, as with any engine, going into and well past the redline is not good. If it was ok to go into the redline then Mazda would have made it a 8000 or 9000 RPM redline.

BTW Nice looking car-two thumbs up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Thanks for the info. The leak is in the front closest to the radiator. I attached a picture. Also, I just had my local Mazda shop check out the car and there was no mention of a problem. They said the compression test was normal #1 9.4 and #2 9.8.?

Just keep an eye on your oil level and add whenever you need to. Rotaries use a little bit of oil.

Are you missing a lug nut?

That is a gorgeous car, I even like the spoiler!

That leak isn't in the "normal" spot, it may be very minor. Once you get used to the oil consumption for your personal driving habits, you will have a baseline to see if the leak is anything bad or not...

Well I'll be damned...I've got that color too! Yours is the first I've seen of the maroon color! Consider yourself privileged!

That oil leak looks like a front seal. How much are you loosing in a month?
