Apparently I have a little oil leak. Can someone advise me what part of the engine this is? Maybe this is common, I don't know.

Oil metering pump

ColinRX7 02-22-2004 05:46 PM

Yep. I hope you're still getting the proper amount of oil injection?

Dysfnctnl85 02-22-2004 05:53 PM

How would I know that?

You may just need a new o-ring for it.

or

get a block off plate, remove the lines and run premix

As per FSM, you're suppost to remove the oil injectors, set them up over a small cup, and run the car for a short period of time and then measure how much oil is in the cup. Somehow that test makes me nervous. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

The only thing that doesn't make me nervous is ditching it and running premix. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I was worried about mine because it has leaked small amounts of oil ever since i got the car...but i've been told those oil injectors leak even if you buy a new one...or rebuild it...might try replacing the lines tho...mazdatrix sells them for about 15 each i think...

from what i understand theres really not much in there...a "piston" which is actually about the size of a pin...and some seals...plus i've been told that they almost never go bad

so unless your hoses are getting brittle i wouldn't worry about it

Dysfnctnl85 02-22-2004 08:12 PM

Would a grommet or something like that not keep the oil from leaking?

falcoln0014 02-22-2004 09:12 PM

from what i understand...no...they just leak...no matter if you rebuild them or not...its just something to do with the design...but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to rebuild it...since it supplys oil to your almost or over 20 year old engine...shouldn't set you back too much since its only a few parts and some seals...and it beats buying one new...cuz i'm pretty sure they're around 150 bucks from mazdatrix

Dysfnctnl85 02-22-2004 09:30 PM

Where would I purchase the materials to rebuild it?

I guess it's something to consider before I sell the engine. My intentions right now are to get everything in line to start the swap.

falcoln0014 02-22-2004 11:20 PM

I'm not sure...might try your local auto parts stores...but they're usually as helpful as a box of rocks when it comes to our cars...

Mazdatrix has a "PUMP METERING GASKET" listed for 2.09...very cheap...but it probably won't stop leaking...and if its leaking atleast you know its still working https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Dysfnctnl85 02-23-2004 07:54 AM

True, I think I will try a gasket, that's what I meant, not a grommet. Thanks for the help!

http://www.loweperformance.com/ " Oil metering pump reseal kits $10 up to 1988. " They also have oring gaskets since that's also a common leak.

And as for the plastic lines, I replaced mine because they were very brittle and broke when i took the emissions off. I replaced them with stainless steel break lines (not braided stainless, just breakline tubes) Bend them into shape and you're off! Looks really nice too, and much more rugged than plastic. I'm gonna clean it up for a show in two weeks and maybe i'll post some pictures so you guys can see 'em in action.

The 1st gen OMP I put on my 20B leaks too, even with a new gasket. That's just from gravity. If it doesn't get any worse once it's running, I'll live with it. Kinda doubtful though.

Yeah those plastic lines are crappy. I might do that as well.

Thanks for the info.
