I can get an oil cooler from a second gen for free. can i use it on my 83 12a? if so, what do i have to do? if not, https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png why the hell not? second question, if i were to hook up an oil temp gauge, what would i have to do, and why would i want one? besides to keep an eye on the oil temp, why would i?....that sounds kinda frootloop (just for show) but really, its not. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png

oil temp is important! its totally worth looking at. if you wanna put the fc cooler in the fb you need to make hoses for it. the long fc hose should fit but i think the engine side fitting is different between the fc and fb's. racing beat makes a temp/ pressure adaptor thing

those lines are bitches. get the adapter and u'll be set

gearbanger 03-21-2003 03:31 PM

There is a better adapter on ebey that is deep enough so that when you change the oil all that left over oil doesn't spill all over your engine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

pengaru 03-21-2003 06:19 PM

actually theres a easy way to avoid the spilling of the oil, punch a hole in the top of the oil filter using a screwdriver or nail and let it drain down before you remove it. I've done this a number of times and it works pretty well.

how much of a bitch is it to reroute the lines? and what should i go with, metal lines or rubber?

Hereonout 03-21-2003 11:42 PM

another question....ive removed every component of the air conditioning, and noticed there is like a foot or so gap from the radiator and the front of the car, has anyone ever found a radiator that will fit closer to the front, one thats maybe not as tall? and if so, what did you do?

89 Rag 03-21-2003 11:57 PM

steel braided lines would be the best option, in a custom application the rerouting should be easy.

they will look similar to these:

you may need the adapters as well.

the adapter plate, installed under the oil filter, is an easy add as well.

That space is reserved for the front mounted intercooler. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

a peripheral port intake would not have those Y splits in the manifold coming off the carb, it would just have two single runners coming right down from the carb right into the rotor housings.

You can clearly see the fork off the carb just above the brake fluid reservior in the photo.

If it were peripheral port you'd see something similar to this:
