Yea, tough rearends, but not enough for a 7k dump. Good luck with the new rear and happy motoring.

I don't know about that. I have had my rear for about a year now and I drag race every weekend. I have a good set of tires. I dont drop the hammer at anything under 8K. Its all a matter of letting the clutch out instead of sidestepping it.

Over 75 launches without a hitch. It is a 1985 GSL-SE rear...engine is heavily modded N/A.

You got a bridge-port right? I think I may have a video somewhere of your car idleing. You have a good point tho, its the initial shock to the transmission that breaks stuff. Slip the clutch a bit and its better on everyone involved.

All you did is repeat what I had already stated. It is all about HOW you come off the clutch. Dump means pop, sidestep, whatever, they are the same. Dump the clutch on your 13b and see what happens. I did exactly that with my SE and ripped the rear to pieces. Litterly all over the track. Oh, and since mine IS an SE it did have an SE rear in it.

What ya gettin all pissy about?

brianhsval 02-23-2005 12:19 AM

Not getting pissy man, just see no point in quoting me, disagreeing and then saying the same thing that I already said only wording different. Pointless realy. Of course that is just my opinion. The fact is that the SE rear is not a bad rear it just isn't as strong as some like to think. What I mean is, it isn't an indestructable rear. Personally I am going to try and find a Kia Sportage and use the front diff. out of it. But, like I said it only my opinion.

ArmyOfOne 02-23-2005 08:36 AM

I was not looking to offend anyone by posting my experience. By quoting you all I did was agree.

Oops, my bad, I guess I'll never do that again... or then again I guess I can just move to another forum?

Again my apologies.

All of you need to slow your roll. Hey army of don't go any where. I've never heard that deal with the kia front diff. Some of my rotary elders have mentioned something about old skool datsun truck rears being strong. Then again thats just hear say? I don't know any one personally who has tried it before.

nightwolf_4_98 02-23-2005 11:37 AM

datsun diff's are tuff, but if you plan on doin more dump's at high RPMS i'd suggest a 4:11 ratio and LSD if you can manage.. i blew three in my 510 before i went for a 4:11 and that lasted a hell of a lot longer, and as far as i know is still good, i blew the motor before i blew the rear diff again

*edit*

btw i was turbo and probably pushin more power then you will be with the 7, so if you can fab a datsun diff up you should be set unless your shootin for like 600HP.. if you really want a good datsun diff try an R-200, they come out of the old 300ZX turbo's and are supposed to handle upto about 400HP

ArmyOfOne 02-23-2005 08:41 PM

I have seen some Datsun diffs take a serious pounding with slicks and turbo power. Then again there's the trusty ford 9 inch or the chevy 10 bolt.

Not the first time a Kia Sportage would be molested to help a Mazda, look in to the motor that is in a Kia, its a derivitive of the FE3 block that Mazda made in the early 90's. 2.0 DOHC and if I may say one hell of a motor for a 1st gen MX6 runnin boost. Search on Probetalk.com for allGuy, hes got a FE3 pushin around 450-500 to the front tires in a 1st gen Ford Probe.
