Before i even get into the problem and my thoughts on a solution, this is my car:
1984 RX7 GSL Rats nest removed Racing beat header to a no cat custom stainless exhaust Mazdaspeed air intake kit MSD 6A Direct fire ignition with MSD blater coils Oh and FWIW car has been running perfect up until late last fall when it started this flooding issue and the flooding issue was well after the rats nest removal. Okay, so i have searched and tried to troubleshoot my carb myself. Basically its like this: Car starts perfect and runs like a raped ape. If it sits for anything longer than 10 minutes after i turn off the engine, it floods really bad when i try to start it. When i say really bad i mean fuel pouring into the carb and then out of the carb! Here is a pic that i took today after i started it, drove it around the block, shut it off, made a turkey sandwich, came back 30 minutes later and it was doing this (bubbling like crazy and fuel spilled over the carb and onto the block): Attachment 19685 If i wait like 2 hours or so it starts right up again, WTF? Checked and made sure the float bowl solenoid is hooked up and it is. Next thought is maybe the fuel pump is still running, right? Well i cant hear it, but i have never heard it, i am going to do the same wednesday and then put my head and my ear up close to the rear drivers side wheel well and see if it is still pumping. Can you guys think of anything else? I hope it doesnt need a rebuild, again, the car drives, runs and starts perfect... Except if i start it, shut it off then try to start it again. ANY OTHER IDEAS, man this is making me crazy! And yes, i have posted this on rx7club.com too, but that site is soooooo slow it makes me crazy. Thanks guys and sorry for the long post! |

That is a really cool picture. Bubble bubble toilet trouble.
I've noticed sometimes the float bowl vent solenoids like to stick. When I listen for the click and it doesn't happen, I whack it on the side and then it clicks again. I've also had a carb that likes to let one of the floats get stuck in the down position. This always floods it whenever it happens. I whack the top of the carb and it frees and floats up. Its never happens if the fuel level is maintaned in the bowl. |

I would chech the float bowl level also .. it might be possable that the float level adjustment is off????
When I rebuilt my carb I set the floats where the rebuild kit told me to, and my car started and ran but It would flood out real bad kinda like the carb in the picture.. So I just eyeballed it and now it works fine.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif |
