Just bought a '84 in Pretty good condition (as far as the body + Interior goes), didn't smoke when I test drove it, but then noticed on the way home that it smokes alot in Higher RPM Range, also does it now when its cold out (Smells like Oil burning) am wondering if it could be something simple or if its my seal.

Check your side housings and see if there is oil comming out of the oil seals. Mine is doing it, can't do anything about it, just keep oil in it. Mine runs just fine but doesn't smoke. Is the smoke black or blue? If black just getting all that carbon outta there. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I'm not too sure what kind of fuel you guys have over in America, but if your smoke is more black than blue, put a high octane fuel (our premium is about 98 octane in aus) with an upper cylinder lubricant (yeah I know, there is no cylinders https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... ) and drive around to blow/burn all the **** out (carbon) of your engine. If its blue, your burning oil and you have to get your seals checked out (replaced). https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

Whoops, forgot to add, you might wanna try a thicker oil and see if that works as a cheaper (although temporary) method of stopping the smoke, rather than getting new seals. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Yea. try 20W 50 . that is what I run in mine because it leaks real bad. IN the winter it leaks very little. So try that out. Just warm it up a bit before you take her for a spin.

Thanks for all the help. will give it a try Sunday when I'm off of work. Getting it checked out by a mechanic is a prob around here, not too many people wanna work on rotary engines around (think their too scared https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR )

Well, once again, thanks for the help. will let you guys know how it turns out.

Gen2RXSeven 01-01-2003 02:01 PM

oh, about the color of the smoke, blueish white (more white than blue)

Racer X 01-01-2003 02:05 PM

Blueish white???Is it using coolant???Check your coolant level.Sounds like you might have a bad coolant seal.

Gen2RXSeven 01-01-2003 08:56 PM

that would probably be part of the problem, looked at the engine (right under where carb. and airfilter are) and theres some green fluid there, was at work so couldn't dig too deep. but going to double check it tomorrow.

Racer X 01-01-2003 09:19 PM

I'd say then it might be a coolant problem.Where is it leaking from?
