so it always dies in 3rd gear? or just after warm up? if only after warm up, I would run a compression check both while engine is cold and again when warm, chances are engine may be tired out.

run a compression check like rotor freak said. make sure you don't pull all plugs out only one at a time and the compression should be with in 10 to 20 psi of each other thats what i look for in my motors if not i would break it down and freshin the motor up it does have 177,000 miles on it. look at apex seals and housing to make sure no delamating is going on and check ecentric shaft for ware and rotor bearing. you probably also got alot of carbon build up in the motor like on the rotors and apex seals. you can run amsoil 2 cycle race oil in the tank with a fuel take of fuel that will help break some carbon loose thats what i do now no metering lines just pre mix at the pump!
