Sorry for all of the posts. Does anyone know what type of carb this is from the picture? I had my dad send me a pic since I'm at school, I didn't get a chance to look at it hard enough to see if it had any identification on it.

Stock

It's most likely a reworked stock nikki 4bbl. The only other 4bbl carb i have ever seen on our cars is a holley...but they usually have a huge breather...and i'm sure it would say holly on it if that was the case.

sooo...i say nikki :P

It's no Sterling carb, but it's a somewhat modded Nikki.

Stocker nikki.

Thanks guys.

So what would explain the 1500rpm hesitation? I don't really know how to "tune" a carb.

rexguy 02-24-2004 07:02 PM

is it hesitant at just 1500 or all the way up? If its all the way up check to make sure your secondarys are opening up all the way.

It's like, if it can get past 2000 it's okay. But how would I check the secondaries?

defprun 02-25-2004 12:41 PM

Someone put some effort into making it look that nice, possibly a rebuild?

Yeah the guy that sold it to me said it was a performance carb and it only had 500 miles on it. Does Mazda rebuild carbs?

ioTus 02-25-2004 03:42 PM

Could have converted it to mechanical secondaries, thus the hesitation.

My buddy had mech. secondaries mod, and i noticed a lag around 1500 to 3000 or something, then it would jump forward and scream...

Dysfnctnl85 02-25-2004 09:50 PM

Well, the thing is sometimes it dies!

What can I adjust?

p0sta1 02-26-2004 09:24 PM

When would be these "sometimes" (Tell us a story about the last time it died) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Dysfnctnl85 02-26-2004 09:43 PM

If I rev it in neutral, like not to the floor but close, it will just die after about 1500-2000rpm.

The guy I bought it from hadn't "tuned" the carb or whatever, so my dad I was adjusting something on it to try to fix the problem. Needless to say, we haven't gotten anywhere because neither one of us knows anything about carbs.

Either its rigged for mechanical secondaries, the accelerator pump is out of adjustment, or the tool who rebuilt/moded it didnt know what he was doing and messed something up. Check the first two I mentioned and get back to me. www.pbandjracing.com theres a how to on adjusting the accel pump. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif
