I seem to have picked up from other posts that the rx7 has a problem with the summer. Since I've only been driving the 7 since October, I havent had a problem with heat. It's starting to get hot, or it at least feels like it, in Southeastern Virginia, and I need to know if there is something I should start doing to save the engine.

How old is your radiator?...my first engine went because of mine being 18 years old

check the hoses on the radiator...if they look like they are brittle or overly expanded replace them

also might check the water pump...its quite important...usually you won't know anything is wrong with it until it starts spewing fluid all over the place

If your radiator has problems don't take it to get cored out...i spent about half as much as buying a brand spakin new one when i took mine...and it was rotten so it didn't do any good.

got mine for 179.99 at oreilys with a lifetime warranty on it...a good investment if you ask me

Make sure your cooling system is in good shape. Flush the radiator and change the coolant. Make sure the little weep hole in the water pump isn't weeping (if it is, you probably soon will be too).

Checked all the hoses, they seem in good condition. I think the radiator is an aftermarket one already, it was in there when I bought it and it doesn't say Mazda on it. What's this weep hole thing, I'm not familiar with the term.

The "weep hole" is a little hole under the pulley that starts to leak when the water pump is going bad. As stated before, don't overheat the engine and ALWAYS keep the coolant full. Also if you have any questions on the radiator, take it to a radiator shop and have them flush it. They usually clean it up and paint it.
