Just curious. Lately with these ignorant gas prices I am even more inclined to get the tank cleaned out, annd the RX running. Every other vehicle we own is a V8, the most efficient is about 18hwy(98 F-150) Anybody happen to have mpg numbers on a bone stock 82 model? It's got to be better than a 4300 pound 281 cubic inch truck, RIGHT??,,,,BB

on a bone stock 12a you should be 18-20mpg in mixed driving.

it would improve with a better exhaust (headers)

And that would also increase performance to a point right? Would you recommend only a header, or the full deal exhaust? Yes I said deal, lol. I have seen dual spelled so many ways I'm ready to puke, lol. I'm not too big a fan of changing the muffler, as I like the "monza" sound ten times better than the "fart can".... Thanks for the help. Do they have K&N filters yet for these? They had one for my 65 Falcon, so it's a good possibility eh?,,,,BB

For an engine that small--18/20 sounds kinda low. A shame.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

Putting on a header and cat back will help the engine breath alot more. You can buy drop in K&N's in the RX-7, or you can buy a Cold Air Intake.

RX-7's are not meant for gas mileage, but if you consider what most cars these days get, and they are V6', it is about the same. Besides, an RX-7 is funner to drive than anything else.

I am trying to keep my wife from wanting a Mini Cooper. We're both finally realizing we need something that saves us some money over the F-150. As much as I love that nice comfy truck, a half tank in Atlanta the other day cost $45!?!?!?!. Granted we're in the line of fire of the gas pumping shortage from Katrina, but that's just repulsive!! That a fill up would cost us $90?!! When we bought the truck used in June 00, it cost $25 to fill it up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

We started looking at the Hybrids seriously. But there aren't that many available, and all are butt friggin ugly. The escape is okay I guess, but it's still in that baby SUV genre. UGGGH!!! I was trying to talk her into a Tiburon GT, but it's really not that much better than an 05 V6 mustang, which is what I wanted to begin with. Well, honestly I wanted a GT, but you know how that goes when a practical person is controlling the money end, LOL.

When I get home at the end of October, I'll tear into the RX7 and see how good I can make it conserve gas, while still being enjoyable. We met while she was driving the car, and it has a lot of sentimental value to both of us. We even drifted accidentally in the rain once with me at the wheel. How I avoided two ditches and ended up pointed the right direction is beyond me, lol. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Anyways I am rambling now, and will shut the hell up. Thanks for your help!!,,,,BB

ditch the air pump and emissions. that'll take some stress of the engine and give you a bit more mileage. i'd tell you to ditch the a/c too but living in houston im sure you dont wanna hear that. if you wanna spend the cash you could get an electric fan, takin more stress off the engine.

i would give you a guide to removing the emissions but it seems the site is down or something.

Buzzbomb 09-06-2005 07:05 PM

Well, I would, but we have emissions test, ANNND visual equipment checks. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png,,,,BB

the only emissions that affect mileage is the cat itself.

Buzzbomb 09-07-2005 03:52 PM

Unfortunately I have to leave all that stuff intact. Aside from exhaust and intake anyway. They will take a quick look under the hood and tell me they can't inspect it. ,,,,BB

I'd love to have a mild racing car, but unfortunately it has to pass, or no sticker... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

but wouldnt gettting rid of the airpump free up the engine and let it rev more freely, so you get more power from the same amount of gas, cause less of the energy goes to spinning the pump. that was my logic.
