i put it on and i noticed 2 things while doing so. first, i had to remove one of the two springs under the original headlight cover, is that going to affect anything? and second, when its down, the weatherstripping around the underside of the hood blocks all the airflow to the engine bay.

I think I might fab up one for my 83 using a spare headlight off my 84.IT will be non-functional of course seeing as my carb is at the back of the bay.

I think that scoop looks cool but really isn't that functional. I like extending the intake piping through the radiator cowl to put your cone filter in front of the radiator (under the nosepiece) instead. You can even fab up something to go over it to make sure that it stays dry, but you are then DEFINITELY getting no hot air from the engine in your intake with this mod. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Yes, but if you have a front mount intercooler in a turbo'd application, it isnt very easy to fit the intercooler PLUS the cone filter in a situation like that!!
I'm thinking of doing the FMIC in front of the radiator, and keeping the cone filter going forward and 45 degree angle up and sideways. It currently sits right behind the passenger side light. THen i'd get the headlight scoop, modify the metal work so that the air can be ducted in, and have a piece of sheet metal cut to create a sealed box for the air filter. That should help reduce heat immensely. |
You can always make a similar shaped hole in the hood right there instead of using it through the headlight! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

I have the same scopp and use it in the same way ioTus described. I have a front mount IC and I routed the intake pipe and filter to the drivers side headlight box. I did exactly what ioTus mentioned. I cut a small section/piece of the hood seal away and slightly notched the metal to allow fresh air in to the custom air-box. My air box is also fed from below.
You can do the same on the passenger side also. These are very easy mods. Here'e a few pics for you. -Bern |

The other side.... actually in the photo above you see what the back of the frame looks like without any rubber seal. Just do the same and trim off the middle metal tap.
