Lowering Question?
 

Hey guys

So I'm planning on dropping my FB a few inches; I was wondering, what's the best way to do this? I'm planning on getting the following parts:

Mariah Motorsports Front Lowering Kit:
Mariah Motorsports by Design Energy Inc. RX-7, Rotary, KitCar and Sportscar Specialist

Eibach Lowering Springs:
Eibach Pro Kit Lowering Spring Mazda RX-7 12A / 13B 1978-1985 1979 1980 1981 1982 5507.140

Tokico Struts:
RX7 1975-1985: Suspension - Shocks: Tokico Strut HP - RX-7 Front 81-85 -


Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You might not need the front lowering kit, considering that the Eibach springs gives 1" drop to the front and only 0.8" drop to the rear...

Any particular reason why you're going with the non-adjustable ones?

I want to slam this thing :naughty:

It looks like the adjustable ones are a bit more pricey and I'm balling on a college budget :ohwell: The Illumina struts are a little more than twice the price.

If the current suspension is in good condition, why not save for a decent set of coilovers? That way you can lower/raise it to whatever height you want, and have awesome suspension at the same time.

But if you want to stick with springs + shocks, then the lowering kit would be good. :)

Question:

Are the strut mounts on 1985-91 FCs identical to those on FBs? I noticed that on Andy's Auto Sport, if I go to coil overs that fit 1979-1985, the only kit available is for one that fits 1985-1991.

Would the kit in the above link work for my 83?

Whenever I'm curious if one part is the same as another from a different year, I always check mazdatrix.com. If the parts are the same, the part numbers would be the same. In this case, they're different.

the problem with lowering the rear of that car is the wats linkage will bind very very bad, now if you remove the wats n go 3 link the car will be too low and you will have major suspension dynamic issues. the front lowering blocks for the top of the shocks will be needed unless you go with a short stroke shock. if you choose to lower more then 1.5 inches in the front or rear for that matter your shocks will blow out alot due to the shocks just plane bottoming out on there internal bumps. point being choose parts wisly and make sure you can have a decent shock stroke travel.

I've always installed Racing Beat springs on all my first gens usually with Tokico blues (non-adj). I trim half a coil from the rear spring to achieve correct ride height and always cut the bump stop down to allow rear axle movement. I am normally use 15 X 7 wheels and have no contact issues ; even ran 16 X 7's on one of them and the rear would rub only with a full tank of fuel and hitting a bad pothole ! Just my 2 cents.....
