Ok, I'm no longer a 7 owner, but I miss my baby... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif She was an '81 nothing special 7(wait, not possible, all 7's are special...) Literally primer gray. Only work I had was exhaust(RB header, 2 1/2 straight back to a MagnaFlow) and a POS jetted stock Nikki that needed to be replaced. Engine also had about 180,000 miles on it(not quite sure, Odometer rolled once, and stopped working at 45k) All the bushings needed replacing, and the car handled like crap due to that and 2 broken rear sway bar links. Oh well, still a 7, and still my favorite car ever.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Anyways, one of the main things that still has me wondering about her is this noise. Only under load and cruising, she would make a low humming noise, sorta like the noise a rear end of a bus makes. Now, I'm not sure, but I narrowed it down to 3 things: The rear end, the transmission, or the wheel bearings. Anyone have any idea?

Also, after I first got her, I made a big mistake(I knew nothing about rotaries at the time). I replaced the plugs, and had 2 trailings on one rotor and 2 leadings on the other. After that, I could never get the timing set, and it always sounded like only one rotor was firing. I replaced the distributor, and it was fine. ANY idea as to what caused that?

thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

BTW - I need help choosing which car to buy now: 84 GSL-SE Targa or 87(?) Turbo II? Both are in good condition, except for minor body damage. The GSL-SE has 65k on the odometer, needs a paint job and a new driver's seat. Turbo II has 58k on the odometer, sounds good, though im not too sure of the condition of the engine. Paint and body are decent, and the dash needs to be replaced. Which do you thnik is the better deal?

DJ Rotor 01-23-2003 12:13 PM

Those two cars are so different I'd say just get whichever one you like the best!

I know, I know..... But thats the problem. I mean come on, a Turbo II, pure head turner, you can beat most ricers stock, handles good... But the GSL-SE..... Thats a pure drift machine. I love the wide body kits, and I'd love to build a beast NA 13B. Argh!!!!!

DJ Rotor 01-23-2003 12:30 PM

Get both https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

lol I wish. I just might if I win this lawsuit....

Smog Fighter 01-23-2003 10:43 PM

it's a matter of asthetics. I don't prefer the body style of the 87. I'm a 84-85 or 92-93 type guy.

They are a fun car with endless possibilities as guys like DirectFreak and Setzep show you can so anything to them.

GSL-SE's are getting hard to find even in decent shape, I'd say get it and nos it the 3mm 2 piece seals can take alot of abuse. My first car was a 84 GSL-SE it had 205,000 miles on it and i raced it hard constantly, it saw 8 grand all the time, in fact I know the guy that owns it now with 220,000 and it still runs!

Couldn't agree more....

Shpook 01-24-2003 01:20 AM

Well, i wouldnt NOS it, because im personally against NOS. But thats just me. I'd like to work the engine with no power assisting at all. I wanna strive for a 250hp NA 13b, but i dont see it happening and still being streetable https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

'79rx7 01-24-2003 02:05 AM

Sure why not, just do a heavy street port and put a nice exhaust and intake on it. I only suggest the nos because the engine could handle it all day long, plus i know of a stock 86 with a 75 shot that runs 13.4's; that's not shabby at all, either way good luck and post pics.

Torque??? who needs it, I'd rather have HP, just do a big port :smirk:
