Hello,

I am new here, but I hope you guys can help me out.

Here's what I bought:

From Ebay

I intend to put this motor in my '82 rx7 which currently has a rotten 12a.

Now since I know nothing about the 6port setup, I am just wondering about this motor.

Does it have actuators like the later model cars or anything like that???

The motor looks mostly the same except for some wiring and vacuum hoses which my existing 12a doesen't have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Syphon ,good buy man. Basicly just about all that extra wiring/vac hoses is related to Mazda's REAPS system.[Rotary Engine Anti-Pollution System if you didn't know] I know you guys over there seem to have to get exhausts/emissions checked a lot more than our country so I'm not sure you'd have to add it or not. That's all those different coloured plugs/switches on top. They're all run by control units under your dash but I'm unsure if your RX-7s had those units. Personally I find once removed, they fly a long way if you have the wind behind you!! Certianly I find the 6 port engines to be ok but it does depend on who you talk too!!

One thing I noticed in your picture is the torque convertor on the back. Obviously if you car is manual you'll need a flywheel. Also just check your exhaust ports to make sure there're the same between the engines.good luck! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Nice engine..how many HP stock ..and what year engine is it?

what did it cost you for shipping?

TheSyphon 07-28-2002 08:59 AM

Yeah,

I'm here in Canada, so they don't check emissions on cars over 20 model years old! Sweet Deal!

Shipping killed me though $456 CAD from $269 US. Plus the $200 taxes.

Yeah, I think the motor has the same HP as a newer 13B, but I am not sure (I guess if I can't actuate the other ports then it wont be LOL)

Since this is a Japanese motor, I am hoping it will be crazy HP!

I know the exhaust ports are different, so I wil have to get a custom header.

I think the motor is out of an '84 or '85 because ot has 6 plugs on the top as uposed to my 5 (but I think the 6th might be for A/C) which I don't care about since that robs power.

So basically the plugs on the top of the engine are just for emissions control devices? (so... they don't really need to be there.?... i'm not an environmentalist... and I don't live in California)

What about the air pump on this thing; Can I just pull that off aswell?

What else... Yeah, I am going to use my flywheel of my car and put it on there, just as long as I don't need a 225mm flywheel, if I do then aluminum will be my way to go.

Thaks for all your prompt help guys.

SoRRoW 07-28-2002 10:37 AM

yeah stripp the emission crap off..

That thing looks like it has more than the US model ,vacumes and wiring...You need to find out what You need taken off..cause since its A 6 port 12A I personally dont know much about it..I wo0uld like to see better close up pics if you can get them ..very close up..top/sides/ft/back...

BTW maybe you can help me out..Im looking for some rotor rims...and I think Canada had them come from the factory for you guys..can you look into it for me?

My e mail is

rotary7s@tampabay.rr.com

also Give me a price...we are looking for 2 sets...one for a friend..and one for me just to have on the side as a collectors piece..

You knwo you could of got a 12Aturbo for a little more than you paid for yours?Sorry to give you the bad news..lol

SoRRoW 07-28-2002 10:38 AM

BTW J Spec 12A turbo I think is rated at 170-180 hp?

So Im thinking maybe you will be around 120-130

TheSyphon 07-28-2002 11:27 PM

Not sure what your talking about there but I can look into it for you.

What year and Engine is your car?

And what exactly is this part?

I will do what I can.

SoRRoW 07-29-2002 04:38 AM

Rotor rims...

They look like rotors...Im not sure what year they came in ..it would be first gen to us US guys...if you dont know what they are..maybe they didnt sell them there.....

TheSyphon 07-30-2002 02:20 AM

sorry... Like engine internals, or Tire rims?

Thanks.

SoRRoW 07-31-2002 09:56 PM

Rotor rims are rims that look like rotors..If you dont know what they are nm then..

Stripgear 08-01-2002 02:10 PM

syphon, on a US model, if you change from a auto flywheel to a manual flywheel you must also change the balance weight behind the front cover. they are different!

SoRRoW 08-01-2002 04:36 PM

If you look at his pic..that is not a US version..This thread says Jap 12a 6 port

treceb 08-02-2002 06:30 AM

actually thats on all models.

treceb 08-02-2002 09:12 AM

sorry. changing the front counter balance when going from auto to 5 sp or vice versa.

TheSyphon 08-02-2002 11:58 AM

Hey,

So I just have to change the flywheel counterweight, as the flywheel weights will differ from automatic to manual.

That's understandable.

No big deal there, Thanks for the advise though.

Also, where can I find a decent clutch for the motor (I don't want to re-use the one I have). I was thinking centerforce I or II.

13b1stgen 08-02-2002 12:24 PM

use an ACT they're reasonably cheap and have a good track record

TheSyphon 08-03-2002 11:37 AM

ACT?

Have a link for that one?

I was just gonna trade the OEM balance, and flywheel.

Thanks,

Brendan

well heres the link for ACT

spartiatis 08-12-2002 03:29 PM

I just discovered that my 81-rx7 got also a 12a 6-port.the previous owner has fitted it on the car but he made it work as a 4-port.the engine came from a 1984 cosmo HB and mazda used to call it 12a\spi.if you gonna make it work properly as a 6-port it produces 130hp(all stock).

TheSyphon 08-13-2002 08:50 AM

Sweet!

So if it is a 6-port engine, then you never firgured out how to get the other 2 ports to actuate?

My understanding was that it had to do with some vaccuum switch.

But one could just as easily hook it up to the exhaust, and the drag at higher RPM's would do the job.

Let me know.

spartiatis 08-13-2002 06:41 PM

i'm thinking of getting mine off the car to find out what the previous owner have done with the aux ports.you may have right about the ehxaust hook up but i do not have the actuators for aux ports.as soon as i learned something more i will let you know.i may find actuators from 13b 6pi.

BTW.racing beat offers a performance header with 6port actuator or something like that.just check it out.
