I'm using a FMIC from a Mitsu Starion. That seems to be a popular one to use. I know several people who are using them. Also they are pretty easy to find in junkyards.

Hey Viper u have a very nice 7, Whoa and the starion looks great with it...How much boost can the starion handle if anyone knows? Im thinking of getting the starion intercooler if it can accomidate 15psi, if not i might go the aftermarket route but still not sure so tell me what u think, thx

Another popular FMIC is the Izuzu's one.I see those used alot on the FB's

treceb 12-18-2002 03:05 PM

hey, viper. what kind of front is that. looks nice.

Viperx7 12-18-2002 04:47 PM

The nose is a standard Mazdatrix nose. Got tired of the square lights, filled in the holes and went with round.

Not sure on the max boost the ic will hold. I've ran mine around 10-12lbs with no problems. I don't see too much problem in running 15lbs.

I, also, have heard of people using the Isuzu, be not sure which model.

Hey viper,Isn't your kit the entire Erebuni kit????It looks just like it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif I guess mazdatrix has the similar kit too I just can't remember right now.

eddierotary 12-20-2002 12:49 PM

i use a isuzu NPR intercooler, they are bigger and better that the starion intercoolers and they are easier to find that the starion ones.

RX7_ARG 12-20-2002 01:55 PM

DirectFreak. You should check your pm's I sent you one last week. You should give us first gen guys a write-up in a new thread with your RE swap and the progress your making on it.I know we would all love to read about that beastly car. :yum:

The Erebuni kit is the same as the mariah motorsports one but its not made of FB the front end is only $217. I was looking at a 98 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo they have huge FMIC's https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png If I was going turbo thats what I would use

I saw a IC from a MACK truck man those IC's have like a 6" inlet and outlet. If only you could fit it in a FB it looked like it was 5-7" thick. :yum: Isn't mariahs kit made of FG like erebuni's?

drifter 12-22-2002 11:49 PM

I've heard of a few people who go cheap and get truck intercoolers instead of perfomance intercoolers. Bad Bad news. They are really dodgy :evildeal: as they are not capable of handling the sustained air charges for turbos designed for performance cars.

Again, check this link and see how some "truck" intercoolers do compared to "sports car" ones.

By the way too big an intercooler will make increase lag, so you have to find a happy medium between efficiency and lag.

I like the Starion IC I hear those are awesome for turbo swaps.I hear they are just about the right size for medium boost levels. If i was using a wrecker IC I think I'd go starion.Izuzu are awesome tho.

I will have to trim a little of the reinforcment fom the header panel when I put it back on. Unless 1stRX7heaven finishes his vented header panels first. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Racer X 12-28-2002 03:33 PM

How much will he charge for those header panels????Are they 3 vent design and remove the badge altogether?

Directfreak 12-28-2002 05:02 PM

I don't know how much he'd charge. They should look like this.
