If things go well, by the end of the summer my engine will be finished and ready to run, but the rest of the car won't. I can get a cheap flywheel to throw on temporarily, but I dont want to bother with a clutch since I'm not going to be driving it anyway - I just want to temporarily install the tranny and starter without the clutch so I can start the engine. Will this cause any damage?

I have a spare set I am not using. If you pay shipping I can get it to you.

shouldnt cause a problem at all we used to start engines on the floor with no clutch on them only a bellhousing and a starter with no problems......crazy maybe but no problems other than it trying to crush your toes if you rev up..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif
