I just picked up an SE today and upon startup the idle raced up to 3-4k and stayed there. I got this car at an auction but based on info I got, the car sat for about eight months. I'm a carb guy so this EFI is new to me. Has this happened to anyone else? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif Thanks for any info!

um does the throttle actually close all the way? is the bac valve vacuum line hooked up? (its the 3.5mm line on the bottom front of the valve)

occasionally, mine does this, i have no idea why. But, if I blip the throttle acouple times, it usually comes back down. Makes me think it's a sticky dashpot...

Checked all vac lines today everything seems in order. Took the black tube off of tb to make sure it opened and closed fully and when I tryied to start the car it woudn't start. Put the tube back on, started right up still running 3-4k. I'm lost?

I thought at first it was just warmup but it never goes down. Aux ports? Tell me where they are and I'll check 'em! Thanks!

well im not sure if your car has them for sure...i have a gls-se 1st gen but it has the 13b engine in it also...but if u do have them they will be on the passenger side of the engine about half way down and they are vacume pumps. they look like little bottles one on the right and left. just press the rod going in to them and see if it moves. description sucks sorry if u cant find them i get ya a pic.

That's what's gone! I saw two places where it looked like something was there and the studs are bare. Have you ever taken one off,it has a little rod swinging inside? Three studs holding them on? Now what do I do Without them? Thsnks for all the help.

ryderx 04-20-2005 07:29 PM

im not to sure whats all inside of them but if there gone thats probally because u have a aftermarket exhaust? but u probally want to wire both of the ports open so u get the power from them, you will lose some low end if u wire them open. and then turn you idle down after u get them wired open. and you should be set. if u want to get the low end back go to a junk yard and find the vacume pumps of another car. get them installed. if you dont have a cat tho you need to buy a presilencer so i can run them, they run off of the back pressure from your exhaust. if u got any other questions add me your a messenger if u have one..Scotman30@msn.com msn Yzassassin for aim

when you take the black tube off it causes the airflow meter to go crazy and your car wont start , if it does it will usually run extremely rich and die out. My SE did the same as yours a few times, and usually would be the throttle position sensor out of wack. Should be a small 2-3 inch black senson next to the throttle body with 2 wires coming out of it, try disconnecting it and see if it helps, I drove mine like that for a year unhooked and other than gas mileage suffered a bit it was no big deal. other than that check your pulsation dampner, its on the fuel inector rail, it has yellowish plastic lid that pops off, remove that and make sure the small screw in the center of it hasnt come loose or fell off, they tend to do this with age and vibration. If it comes loose it will run a bit rich and idle funny or at times not even start and flood itself out. While you are at it check to make sure that your injectors are not sucking air, the injector seals tend to dry up and get hard and not seal very well and cauze the engine to idle high or surge. If these things check out and still keep having problems, drop me an email and ill be happy to lend a hand.
