ok, im gonna be working on fcrotornuts car todayand he didnt make a thread to try and find out whats wrong with it so i will...

he says that when he puts his car in gear it goes from idling at 1k to 200 and stays there. its a steady idle, not bouncy or anything. any ideas?

Shane.Trammell 04-09-2005 10:10 AM

well matt has informed me that it doesnt only idle this way in gear, but all the time.

Mine did that too, quick fix for me was wiring the A/C solenoid to kick on with ignition switch, simple, effective, free.

Check for vac leaks, My car had a leaking brake booster and it idled like ****, I pulled the hose and plugged it and it cleaned right up. Also check the coasting valve, before I bypassed mine my car would barely idle at all. Good luck!

thanks for the ideas

ok, heres what its doing, its idling at 1k, holding steady, and suddenly, out of nowhere, it will drop to 200 and hold there, like its about to stall, as soon as i give it gas, it goes right back up to 1k and it repeats this process every so often.

i think its something you did grounding it, or changing the alternator

Does it still have full emissions on it?

it has no emissions and no dual pulley, which could be a prob

ok we got it fixed. the ground was not too good, so i fixed it up. i used a long battery cable straight from the batt. to the back of the block then one from there to the strut tower where its supposed to go. should be at least as good as the stock system, hopefully better since it goes straight to the block. that wasnt the problem though.

his tps was waaaay off and i set that then set his idle then mix and the mix was waaaay rich (prob why he was popping flames?) then idle again and it sits perfect at 800, never idled better since he got it.

his tb sticks though. we cleaned it with wd40 as much as we could but it didnt fix it all the way. i think his butterflies are sticking bc there was some sticky, maybe oilish, stuff in his airbox past the filter, so i think that may be gumming the butterflies, but we didnt feel like taking that all apart so it still sticks. what it does is revs fine but decels slowly then hits a point and goes reeeaaly slow, but its at a pretty low point where it sticks so its not that big of a deal.

thanks for all the input guys, its always nice to have somewhere to start looking!

Ive heard on older motors it is good to link a ground in between the housings because of corrosion? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif Could be wrong it has happened once before.
