I went to look at a 79 rex today and it looks like its in very good condition for a 79. A/C still works and only 112 K miles on it! I have a question about some **** b4 I buy it, if i buy it.

The car starts but only with jumpers on it. We let i run for a lil than took them off and it just stopped running. I guess its the battery, but i was thinking the alt. might be poopy? Another thing the main reason im here is the guy thats selling it put a new float on the carb and ever since (I think) when your revin it (sometimes) or when the engine dies this fuking loud *** bang (sounds like a 1/4 stick of dyno) under the hood near the carb!!!

WTF is that????!!??

I was thinking he didn't hook vacuum lines back up right. If so which ones are the most important?

probably the alternator... as for the bang, check the timing... make sure the wires weren't switched around. also.. make sure some idiot didn't decide to use the autolites instead of NGK's

the alternator is bad, this may have ruined the battery also. If it backfires it could be for many reasons, including a bad ACV or a vaccum leak or improper timing or sticking carb floats, if the floats were adjusted improperly this could cause a flooding during decelleration, resulting in a backfire.
