I saw an 85 rx7 with the shocks and springs in the rear hatch. I have searched high and low for this kit to do it to my rx7, but I haven't come close to finding one. Does anybody know where I can get this mod, or how to do it? I would appreciate it alot.

Is it just me or what the heck are you talking about? Carl
|
youre not alone... im lost too. care to explain? you mean you could see them THROUGH the rear hatch or what?
|
He means on his car there is nothing to hold up the rear hatch when you open it. It will just fall on your head. That is how it is on my 1985 gs too so I believe he is looking for a kit to make this stay up. I am also looking for this so if anyone know please post links to where we can buy.
|
actually, i think he means where the shocks and springs are mounted diiagonally inside the car with a central mounting point in the center of the car. Look at a rear suspension on alot of the prototype cars that run Lemans. I've seen one FD done this way.
Why do you wanna do this other than aesthetic reasons? |
so is he talking about an inboard pushrod activated shock setup (cantliever i think its called?) or hatch struts?
|
i doubt he is going in depth like grey is about it, its prob the hatch struts
|
i just assumed since he said "shocks and springs"

Is this a guessing game? If it is the clue really sucks!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Am I going to have to be the guy that says:
"remove rear suspension, open hatch, place suspension in hatch"? 'Cause that seems really obvious. Maybe put a blanket down to save the carpet. |

oops... sorry about the last nothing post...
It's a mid 80's rear axle. (not exactly sure what year) Brackets for the coil-overs were fabricated and welded to the original spring seats on the axle. |
We got a little creative with the steering also - wanted a CP Racing rack & pinion conversion but couldn't wait out the quoted delivery timeframe... so we made our own and added a steering quickener.

We're using this season to set-up and "tune" the chassis. This winter it'll get a new engine and a paint job. [attachment=30734:attachment][ |
The car is a second gen you saw. It was a pushrod setup. I cant tell you where to find the pics anymore. Not really a viable setup on a first gen solid axle. Could be a setup if you converted to IRS.
