I've rebuilt a piston engine, done lots of my own work.
How hard would it be and do I need special tools? I mean, is it as easy as a piston engine to rebuild? I found an old Mazda repair book at the library, and it walks through a rebuild from a '70's rotary, I think it was a 12a. It didn't look too bad. Also, how expensive would it be for the basic parts, assuming the engine isn't trashed to start with? |
ttt
Has anyone here done it themselves? One thing I've noticed, it seems the rebuild kits are kind of pricey. |
its very easy to do, its about as hard as a bottom end of a piston engine.
the "kits" are kinda expensive, but its still cheaper to build a rotary over a piston. mike |

ask steve kan from gothamracing.com how hard it is. he pulls his engine in the morning and puts it back in that night. thats with a rebuild in the middle somewhere.

well I am looking into doing a rebuild on a 12A in my 85 fb and have read alot on here.. great site and you guys are all friendly.. never see anybody getting in someone's ass about anything without it being friendly.. I want to get a port job done and have been thinking about an Atkins supercharger... of course after a rebuild.. I know this is gonna be costly but this car needs and deserves some tlc. Racing Beat has their catalog that you can buy for about 11 bucks.. has great reading and I also think very nice parts for sale... all I can say is that you should read till your eyes bleed .. this site is the best... tons of info and great people... ty... btw https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683621.gif

GO to Atkins that have good prices. and use thier two piece apex seals.
and before you start to project just spend some time reading over the rebuilding part of the forum about 4-6 hours (read it over over a period of two weeks). Chat on the forum for about the same time. And get a game plan of prices and special tools you:ll have to get. also fc3s.org (i think that thier web page) is a go place to go for info and small what nots. And more info can be gotten at Lighting In A World Of Thunder web page(lot of the info check it out). Use the forum man "two heads are always better then one " also take your time good luck |
