I recently found a beautiful 1st gen Rx7. I've always wanted one and I found what I believe to be an '83 probably a GSL. I'm quite sure its a 12A with bad seals but its only $100. How can I get big power out of it? I want to leave it N/A and it will rarely be driven on the street. I figured a new bridgeport but I dont know if I want a 12A. What all is involved in a 13B swap? 4 or 6 port? I want at least 200whp. Should I stick with the 12A? I also have a second gen GTU drivetrain. Could the LSD or tranny be used?

if youre looking for that kinda power both the 12a and 13b can put that out with a little porting. but i'd say use the 13b, because you reallly dont know whats wrong with the 12a, and you might just end up spending more money fixing random ****, rather than porting. but hey you might not spend as much. but hey you already have the 13tranny right? how about the engine? and man 100 bucks for an FB, i'll take it! haha

Don't have much experience with 13b's but a nice streetport with a weber downdraft or a holley carb would net you over 200hp given that you upgrade the fuel system, exhaust, and cooling system.

If that wasn't enough for you you have two other options, nitrous which with a holley carb on would cost practically nothing, or turbo the weber setup which does take a lot of fine tuning but the results are nothing short of phenomenal. I'm not sure of his hp but my friend had a turbo'd weber setup that car was awesome ran the quarter in the high 11 - low 12 area.

If you want the 13b I would put in a turbo II they are easy to find and even easier to put in... All you have to do to install a 13b in a FB is change the oilpan...

Whichever route you choose to take make sure you upgrade your cooling system, mainly the radiator.. The stock FB radiators are ****, I bought a second gen radiator and while it took so fabrication to get it in my temps are much lower...

Good Luck,

Buy it. You can't go wrong for $100.

You can get 200hp from a 12a with porting and the right carb setup. Overall, you could prolly get more power from the 13b, but if you already have a 12a and yuor only looking for 200hp, why waste the money. Rebuild what you have.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Maybe if you have a non-SE rad.SE rads are awesome and take no fab time to keep you motor in the sweet spot on your temp guage.

I know three people with the stock radiators and one with the SE radiator, they were all shitty... When I got my rx and pulled the stock rad out the fins turned to powder when you touched them I was initally going to keep it but decided to upgrade...

As with most posts I can only speak for myself and a few others, but in my opinion the stock radiators are ****...

That's because those radiators were old and abused.

I have a new stock radiator that I paid only $120 for (radiators.com). I have a high horsepower turbo engine, with twin 12" E-Fans.

I live in HOT, South Florida.

My temperture barely reaches 150-160 degrees,

even after boosting the **** out of it.

Other people with more power, and porting all still use the stock

radiator - it really is over-engineered.

What you need to concentrate on is a good E-Fan with it's

own themoswitch to keep things from ever getting hot. A manual switch

in the cabin is not the way to do it.

porting is the key. of course where u live and what kind of emission laws they have might not be so much fun. turbos are great.

the first thing u want to do is decide exactly how much hp u want and what u want to use the car for. then take it from there.

of course u can port now and then down the road install a turbo...
